The CBT Lady

Learning Visions

In the spirit of trying to explain to people what I do for a living, I was trying to explain to someone recently what I do for a living. “I help organizations design and deliver online training programs…” The guy made a cross with his fingers and hissed at me saying, “Oh no, you’re the CBT Lady!” Visions of hairnet covered lunch ladies. In our digital literacy teacher training programme at Plymouth University we create environments that encourage critical thinking. My colleague Peter Yeomans (AKA @ethinking on Twitter) says we create the 'bear pits' for our students. In other words, we enable digital and physical learning spaces in which they can freely explore ideas, argue with each other (and us) over concepts and theories and in so doing, develop their reasoning and thinking skills.

State of the LMS 2012

eLearning 24-7

For the past month, I have been conducting a survey on learning platforms and specifically learning management systems. . The data shows that what many vendors assume end users want is far from accurate. Too many vendors are focusing on talent/performance management as the next feature/component in their systems. While this makes sense from a revenue standpoint, there is a huge base of people who do not want any TM/PM functionality.
