5 Tips To Maximize ROI Of Your LMS

Upside Learning

As I keep meeting many of my prospects, I always confront a very common question, “Can you help us to understand how we can maximize the Return on Investment (ROI) of our LMS?”. The question indirectly extends to how can we calculate the ROI of an LMS and highlight the positive outcomes of it. Practically, there is no direct method to calculate the exact return on investment of an LMS, but by following certain generic principles; one can surely maximize the ROI.

The future belongs to those who take charge of their own learning

Jane Hart

Once upon a time (as all good fairy tales start) employees had a job for life. Having left school or college you could start work for an organization and remain there for your whole professional life. The company would provide you with all the training you needed, give you all the promotions you deserved and then at your retirement, reward your long service with the gift of a clock or a gold watch.

Tin Can & Performer Support – “Just Enough – Just in Time – Just for Me”

Living in Learning

Have you ever explained something to someone who is either hearing it for the first time or is still trying to get their head wrapped around the concept? You know how they will nod slowly in seeming agreement while looking off into the ether and saying dreamily, “Yeah…” really, really slowly?” That far-off look is confirmation that they are indeed interested and yet remain clueless for the most part.

#Devlearn TinCan panel: #Tincan is rocking our world

Challenge to Learn

I attended the panel discussion on TinCan this morning; great session. I have tried to capture the session in a mind map. It is clear that TinCan is a major change. It is not only a shift from tracking and tracing to enabling learning experiences, it opens op a whole new world of possibilities. We have to redefine what (e)Learning is or could be. Some remarks at the panel triggered me into this observation: There is a lot of confusion about TinCan and the impact on our (learning people) day-to-

What Gets Measured Gets Done.Revisited

The Performance Improvement Blog

One of the most frequently visited posts on this blog is “ What Gets Measured Gets Done…or Not.” I suspect that the post is interesting to readers because of the popular axiom, not because of the content of the post. In that post I argue that measurement is not enough. An organization has to do something with those metrics in order to “get done” what needs to get done, i.e., organizational learning, performance improvement, and change.

Is Tin Can API Lipstick on the SCORM Pig?

Living in Learning

Last week [October 25th] I had the distinct privilege of sitting in on the Tin Can API break-out session that was presented by Aaron Silvers of ADL. I’m not sure of his exact title, but his role was in a leadership capacity on the Tin Can API project. His business card says “the Beard”…and while that was accurate, I still don’t know his real title. Given ADL was also the birth mother of SCORM, I walked in and sat down with a preconception or two that this was SCORM in a new dress.

Can Brain Science Actually Help Make Your Training & Teaching Stick?

Speaker: Andrew Cohen, Founder & CEO of Brainscape

The instructor’s PPT slides are brilliant. You’ve splurged on the expensive interactive courseware. Student engagement is stellar. So… why are half of your students still forgetting everything they learned in just a matter of weeks? It's likely a matter of cognitive science! With so much material to "teach" these days, we often forget to incorporate key proven principles into our curricula — namely active recall, metacognition, spaced repetition, and interleaving practice.

The Ed-Tech Evolution [INFOGRAPHIC]

I am an advocate for performance support. It just makes sense, (even if the term itself is a bit confusing and not very exciting.) But as with all technology-enabled learning solutions that have crossed my path over the past 35+ years, the most critical success factor is not the technology at all. It is the people who will use and support the use of this stuff: the workers (unfortunately referred to as ‘end-users’) and their managers.

Writing & Grammar: Lay Versus Lie--The Truth

Theories for the digital age: Self regulated learning

Informal and self regulated learning are defining characteristics of 21 st Century education. Various commentators suggest that as much as seventy percent of learning occurs outside of formal educational settings (Cofer, 2000; Dobbs, 2000; Cross, 2006). If these are accurate statistics, they present a significant challenge to schools, colleges and universities.
