Research is conducted – RFPs are developed and preparation is made, yet one of the biggest components is typically left to the end – or forgotten until it is too late – your infrastructure. 3rd party contractors/vendors – Creating a Course 4 U. I am a big fan of having 3rd party contractors creating courses. That said, I am extremely picky on who I select and often will use previous contractors who I know can meet and exceed my expectations, as well as my deadlines/deliverables, etc. I require all my courses to be built in Flash, to be fully interactive and engaging.

LMS Seats and Courses seats: 1. If you are using an open source LMS – for example Moodle – then you have unlimited seats for your LMS.

Seats: It is a common term, and in the e-learning world for a LMS/LCMS – it means something that will cost you more later on, if you do not realize the true essence of how it works. Confused? You should be, because if it was simple, everyone would enjoy the process. : ). 99% of all LMS/LCMS (and for this topic, I will just call them ‘LMS’), use a format called seats when it comes to placing your audience, end users, learners, employees, whatever into the system.

SCORM, SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, AICC what does it all mean? Better yet, what does it mean to YOU when trying to find that LMS or LCMS vendor? How do you know that they really know what they are talking about? You would be surprised on how many sales reps have zero clue. I’ll exclude the technical components or specifics on SCORM and AICC – plenty of info. out there on the net for that.

There is nothing worse or nothing more scary then seeing a web based training course that identifies itself as such, with lots of text and a few pictures. The end user (the learner) goes through the screens as though they are nothing more than a robot and every so often click on a word or so and a pop-up appears (if they are lucky) with something else in the box.
