Apple deserves a large part of the credit when it comes to pushing innovation into the wild. The iPhone pushed Google to commit to Android and forced Microsoft and other players to either improve their products or get out of the game. Apple did the same with the iPad, finally delivering a ‘handy’ portable device with the power of a desktop, and once again pushed the competition to either join in or cede the market. Only” two years? Not a chance. | ICS LEARNING GROUP DECEMBER 14, 2011 Adobe Captivate Quirks We recently assisted a customer who was having difficulty with Adobe Captivate and their desired LMS reporting. Quick research showed this an issue with Captivate where; 1. Setting quiz slide responses to go to one page for a Correct response and a different page for an Incorrect response was unreliable – occasionally these quiz slides seemed to just ‘continue’ instead of branching properly. The fix : Use Advanced Actions to customize the progression. The fix : Don’t show the Retake Quiz button. few users have complained about inaccurate scores being sent to the LMS. | | | | | | | ICS LEARNING GROUP FEBRUARY 10, 2012 Thoughts on Flash, HTML5, and video The HTML5 engine continues to gather steam! However, Flash remains a completely viable option for a variety of rich-media experiences – the level of HTML5 support and features across the variety of platforms and devices is simply not far enough along or consistent enough to go with an HTML5 solution for RIA’s or video at this time. Let’s take a quick look at the codec support issue. link] ???? | ICS LEARNING GROUP MARCH 2, 2012 Articulate Player Customization We work with several tools here at ICS to develop custom eLearning content for our clientele. The Articulate suite (i.e. Articulate Studio) is certainly one of the tools in our box which we use for the less-complex Level 1 and 2 lessons. For such projects, a common request is to modify the default player ‘skin’ to meet navigation and branding requirements…and we thought we’d share some of those processes. The below suggestions assume some familiarity working with Articulate Presenter. One quick and easy way to customize a lesson is through the Table of Contents, or left-side slide navigation. | ICS LEARNING GROUP NOVEMBER 4, 2011 Publishing Captivate Lessons for LMS/SCORM Tracking First, be sure to update Captivate 5 to ver. 5.0.2.630, launch Captivate 5 and select Help > Updates (be sure you are connected to the Internet). There are no updates available at the time of this article for Captivate 5.5, so updating isn’t an option to resolve any potential LMS/SCORM issues with those projects. Next, for Captivate to track results to your LMS, it needs to have something to track – so be sure to setup a ‘scored interaction’, such as a quiz slide or a custom interaction (any button or hot spot). This isn’t required for all LMS integrations, but is a safe play in most cases. | ICS LEARNING GROUP MARCH 15, 2013 Understanding Problem-Based Learning Consider you need to teach someone how to light a match. You can show them pictures of people lighting a match, or even better – a video of a match being lit. You can create a series of slides in PowerPoint providing the steps it takes to light a match. You can show a good example vs. a bad example, and point out the differences between the two. How about hiring a match specialist; who can give a live demonstration showing the proper way to light a match. How about just giving them a match? ITDL, May 2011 , pp.3-7] So what’s the ‘problem’? They are a passive audience. Constructivism ). | | | | | | | | | -

ICS LEARNING GROUP | TUESDAY, JUNE 21, 2011 Challenges between IE9, Windows 64-bit, Flash eLearning, and SCORM Browser updates are always a challenge for most any web-based content. With Microsoft’s release of Internet Explorer 9, a particularly disturbing issue has arisen for many Learning Management Systems and Flash-based eLearning content. Tools such as Articulate Presenter rely on Adobe’s Flash Player. The method by which IE9 works with ‘iFrames’ has changed significantly enough that the Flash player has some issues, one apparently related to its communication with javascript functions. Ultimately this will likely need to be addressed by Adobe and an updated Flash Player release. MORE >> -
ICS LEARNING GROUP | MONDAY, MAY 21, 2012 Clarifying the Creative Cloud, part 2 As we dig into Adobe's Creative Cloud offering, there may be more and more parts to these clarification posts.but for now we have determined that the Creative Cloud offering is not an option for us here at ICS Learning Group at the moment because there is not yet a volume licensing option. Per the current Creative Suite FAQs , 'subscription editions' are available only for individuals. Additionally, Adobe's using an ".identity-based identity-based licensing with a technology that will not support multiple same-product subscriptions, so you can buy only one subscription per Adobe ID." ICS LEARNING GROUP | TUESDAY, MAY 1, 2012 Thoughts on the Creative Cloud Last week, Adobe announced their new approach to Creative Suite 6 software licensing, the Creative Cloud , which should be available in early June. This subscription-based ‘digital hub’ will provided the ability to download and install any application in Adobe’s CS6 “ Master Collection ” and use it offline…as long as you remain subscribed. The pricing does not seem unreasonable, but that may be a point of perspective and there are several options. Adobe’s Master Collection traditionally retails for about $2600. which is quite a deal for at least the first year. MORE >>
