ID - Instructional Design or Interactivity Design in an interconnected world?

Performance Learning Productivity

Instructional design is not only seen as a core competency for learning and development/training specialists, but it’s a huge industry, too. Most learning vendors tout their ‘expertise in instructional design’ as a key reason as to why we should engage them to produce learning content. If we do so, then almost invariably their approach is around developing content in an ‘instructionally-sound way’ to produce a set of ‘learning interventions’.

mLearning: The Latest Trends and Why You Should Care

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Rosie Hausler Mobile Learning (mLearning) has been around for quite a while now. As a subset of Distance Learning and eLearning it has promised a more immediate and more flexible approach to those bleeding-edge providers that have wanted to deliver more complete blended training programs. If you consider the definition of mLearning as untethered (from cords and cables) and interactive (so learners can participate from almost anywhere), you can see how the limitations of the available legacy m

This type of environment is flexible. No matter what direction a learner takes, the experienced person playing the other role can provide the right feedback and act appropriately for the role.

CloudCourse – Is it really a learning platform?

Upside Learning

Just very recently Google announced the release of CloudCourse , calling it both an internal learning platform and also a course scheduling system. Built entirely on Google’s App Engine, it is primarily a scheduling platform which integrates with Google Calendar. From the videos and the pages put up on the link [link] , I could only figure out that it is a basic scheduling tool and not quite there to call it a learning platform.

Adobe Captivate 5: The Mother of All Upgrades!

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Kevin Siegel I've been using, writing about and teaching Captivate since, well. before the program was known as Captivate. I've seen all of the upgrades. I've been underwhelmed (Captivate 1 to 2 didn't do much for me) and amazed (Captivate 3 to 4 was a major step forward for the program). With the upgrade from Captivate 4 to 5, I'm awestruck.

What does a facilitator of an online learning trajectory do?

Joitske Hulsebosch eLearning

I'm helping different people to facilitate online trajectories. It's always funny to see that people who are experienced facilitators face-to-face are so scared for an online process. And then suddenly they see they can use the same basic facilitation skills online. In the beginning, most are disappointed by the number of responses to messages. Somehow online, participation seems lower because the people who are reading with attention are not visible.

EPSS – In Pursuit of the Dynamic Learning Ecosystem

Living in Learning

Sunday morning I stumbled over a post in one of the community groups I follow on LinkedIn. The question put to the community asked about the use of performance support. The author referenced hearing a lot of buzz lately about performance support, but there was not much evidence of success stories short of application to computer systems training. I had to agree, and I believe there is a purely business reason for that – it is called protecting competitive business advantage.

by Kevin Siegel If you want to include PDFs in your RoboHelp Help System there are basically two ways to proceed. First, you can store the PDFs on your Web server and then create a standard link to the PDF from within any topic in your Help system. If you instead add the PDF to your Baggage Files folder, and then create links, the PDFs will be part of the generated Help System and the PDFs will be search

Bock writes: Stephen Gill notes that many writers are taking Toyota's current troubles as "proof" that their success of the last couple of decades was some kind of sham.

Multitasking – Don’t Do It

Upside Learning

Earlier I’ve written about multi-tasking and published a small interaction to help you draw conclusions about it. When multitasking, productivity decreases up to 40% and stress rises. Our lives would be happier, healthier, and more productive if they just focused on doing one thing at a time. Harvard Business Review’s Peter Bregman spent a week consciously not multitasking and writes about it.

Six Principles for Sticky Ideas that You Should Know

Integrated Learnings

By Derek Howard. Great ideas are golden. This is especially true in the business world. A great idea can save money, rake in new business and ultimately really plump the bottom-line. Big or small, a great idea is a great idea. Unfortunately, sometimes, no matter how great the idea is, it just never seems to catch on. Why is this? The good news is that it’s rarely the fault of the idea itself.

Can Brain Science Actually Help Make Your Training & Teaching Stick?

So… why are half of your students still forgetting everything they learned in just a matter of weeks? It's likely a matter of cognitive science! With so much material to "teach" these days, we often forget to incorporate key proven principles into our curricula — namely active recall, metacognition, spaced repetition, and interleaving practice.
