As I keep meeting many of my prospects, I always confront a very common question, “Can you help us to understand how we can maximize the Return on Investment (ROI) of our LMS?”. The question indirectly extends to how can we calculate the ROI of an LMS and highlight the positive outcomes of it. Practically, there is no direct method to calculate the exact return on investment of an LMS, but by following certain generic principles; one can surely maximize the ROI.

Last week [October 25th] I had the distinct privilege of sitting in on the Tin Can API break-out session that was presented by Aaron Silvers of ADL. I’m not sure of his exact title, but his role was in a leadership capacity on the Tin Can API project. His business card says “the Beard”…and while that was accurate, I still don’t know his real title. Given ADL was also the birth mother of SCORM, I walked in and sat down with a preconception or two that this was SCORM in a new dress.

So we are off to an excellent start with DevLearn. As always at the first day of a guild conference it was an exhilarating day. I was able to attend some sessions and keynotes and talked to lot’s of people. Here is my wrap-up. Trends? I try to spot the emerging trends at conferences like this, for this conference there are two. One is SaaS or cloud based solutions, the other is the future of the Learning Management Systems.
