4 Ways Being like Bamboo Can Help You Succeed and Find Your Purpose

This week, we hosted Ashley Thompson, Senior Learning and Development Business Partner for Infinity North America, in a thought-provoking session that gave attendees insights on building a strong foundation, perseverance, and patience for exponential growth. After a year like 2020, these are skills we all could use!

Watch the recording below to discover the tools for finding your purpose and key skills to help you succeed.

Ashley started out by introducing the Ikigai tool to attendees. Ikigai is Japanese for “a reason for being.” It’s a tool for finding your purpose in life.

Using the Ikigai tool, you take a thoughtful look at your:

  • Passion (what you love)
  • Mission (what the world needs)
  • Vocation (what you can be paid for)
  • Profession (what you can do best)

The point where all these things overlap is your Ikigai—your purpose in life.

How do you get to that point? In order to reach your Ikigai, you need resilience.

Resilience: Ability to absorb a shock without breaking

Bamboo is an incredibly resilient plant. It can grow and thrive in many different conditions. In the webinar, Ashley shared how you can adopt some of bamboo's traits in your own quest for success. We'll cover that in a minute.

First, Ashley talked about 3 main factors that can prevent you from reaching Ikigai.

These are:

  1. Fatigue
  2. Fear
  3. Frustration

However, there are attributes you can cultivate to help you conquer the above challenges.

These attributes are the 4 ways being like bamboo can help you succeed. (Ashley even included a fifth bonus way to be like bamboo!)

  1. Rediscover your passions.
  2. Recharge your energy.
  3. Remember past behaviors that were successful.
  4. Resist the temptation to give up.
  5. Reset and be willing to pivot.

Watch the webinar recording now to learn about the Ikigai tool and how to be more like bamboo.
