Create Engaging Multi-Device ELearning

Two important factors for successful elearning implementations include cross-device support and overall course engagement.

The first of these is pretty self-explanatory.

When you create an elearning course it needs to be accessible from a variety of devices. This usually includes laptops, desktops, smartphones, and tablets (at the very least).

As you create your course content you should be continually testing across these different devices. An animation or effect that looks fine on a laptop screen may not have the same impact when viewed on a tablet.

If you are looking for a tool to help you with this kind of testing then I can recommend BrowserStack. Using BrowserStack you can test across different devices and operating systems.

As a general rule of thumb you should make sure that everything displays correctly for up to three legacy systems. In other words, no need to worry about platforms like Microsoft XP or Mac OS X Snow Leopard!

In addition to compatibility you will want to try your best to make the course content engaging. There are many ways to do this depending on a variety of factors.

You could use gamification methods.

Different animations or hotspots.

Various kinds of media.

The list goes on. The type of content and overall learning culture at your organization will be the main factor in determining the best way forward.

As the infographic above points out, you need to find a way to give purpose to your elearning and to motivate learners towards understanding (and obtaining) that purpose.

Remember, there is not “one best way” for creating engaging content. Remain flexible with your strategy and don’t be afraid to experiment.
