In Presentations and eLearning Visuals are worth a thousand Bullets on a Slide

mLearning Revolution

'Whether you are a presenter or developing eLearning, our job is to engage our audience and no other things does the exact opposite more than a never ending list of bullet points on a Powerpoint slide. One of the best presentations I have ever witnessed in person was delivered by Seth Godin. He came to speak to us when I was at Adobe during one of our annual sales and marketing conferences and wow, was I blown away, not only is he sharp and funny but the visuals he uses in his presentation leave

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

The Internet of Things ( wikipedia page ) has been a concept in existence for over a decade. You may be hearing about it for the first time here, or you recently read about it somewhere else. 10 Things I Love about Screenr.com

mLearning Revolution

'When I worked at Adobe and we announced Acrobat.com, I was so excited with all the free Cloud services included, and it also meant that I could leverage the story in promoting my apps because of some of the integration between them that we had built. As an Evangelist then, with every new product launch Adobe did, i always asked myself, how can we leverage the new technology in our less known products, and more specifically, how can we get Adobe Captivate involved.

Learning Management Practices that Sabotage Scalability

Absorb LMS

Organizations that move from managing training manually using spreadsheets or pen and paper to using a learning management system (LMS) invariably see improved efficiency and cost savings. Thrilled with the gains achieved, these organizations often stop short of any further optimization. If the time needed to manage a specific learning program drops from 100 hours when managed manually to 25 hours managed using a learning management system, it’s a cause for celebration.

Workplace Performance Services: more than just Training

Jane Hart

In his recent post, Informal Learning , 95% solution, Harold Jarche provides the reason why many workplace learning professionals can only think about “informal learning” and “social learning” in terms of how they can manage them within a blended training solution – rather than simply support them, as they happen, naturally and continuously, in the workflow.

The best Presentation on Social Learning and the New Role for Educators

mLearning Revolution

'I’m fascinated by the impact Social Media has had on just about everything we do, including how we learn and how we share knowledge with our peers. It’s no exaggeration to say that we are now learning something new all the time, from just about anywhere there’s a connection, and through just about any mobile device. I can’t think of a better time in history to be alive than now.

Stop creating, selling, and buying garbage!

Clark Quinn

I was thinking today (on my plod around the neighborhood) about how come we’re still seeing so much garbage elearning (and frankly, I had a stronger term in mind). And it occurred to me that their are multitudinous explanations, but it’s got to stop. One of the causes is unenlightened designers. There are lots of them, for lots of reasons: trainers converted, lack of degree, old-style instruction, myths, templates, the list goes on.

How to Improve Learning Outcomes With Performance Support

Dashe & Thomson

Given that the goal of instructional designers and training developers is to improve employee performance, it’s surprising that many continue to create blended learning programs with little or no reliance on performance support tools or systems. Consider Player/Game Interactions

Kapp Notes

Instructional or serious games should be driven, in part, by the types of interactions you wish to illicit from learner. A common mistake among novice instructional game developers it that they focus too much on the topic or instructional goals and not enough time on the interactions that will drive the learner toward those goals. The best way to design from that perspective is to think about what the learner needs to do on the job and try to mimic those activities, actions or behaviors in the g

Level of ‘levels’

Clark Quinn

I was defending Kirkpatrick’s levels the other day, and after being excoriated by my ITA colleagues, I realized there was not only a discrepancy between principle and practice, but between my interpretation and as it’s espoused. Perhaps I’ve been too generous. The general idea is that there are several levels at which you can evaluate interventions: whether the recipient considered the intervention appropriate or not.

Video Training – why it’s here to stay

Dashe & Thomson

I’ve been a movie and video nut for most of my life. Three high school friends and I produced a slew of super-8 movies that played to typically strong reviews (those I choose to remember anyway) in my high school. “Rockski – The Polish Palomino” a brilliant (to us anyway) parody of the Rocky series, remains a source of true pride for me. This continued into college and beyond using both film and video, with the productions growing more elaborate.

Gaming with the Nine Events of eLearning

Integrated Learnings

The intent is for learners to learn entirely by doing , in the context of a fun game. It ignited my imagination when I started to envision ways it could be used for educating learners who had entered their age in double-digits.

Learning, unlearning and relearning

Learning with e's

We all value learning. And much of what we have learnt can be difficult to unlearn. Usually that's a good thing. But there are times when unlearning just has to be done. Sometimes it's impossible to learn new things if you don't unlearn some of the old stuff you are hanging on to. At the extreme end, a lot of irrational beliefs and prejudices are based on what we have learnt and find we now cannot relinquish.

Give Your Employees More, and Get More Back

According to author Peter Drucker , a responsible worker is a person who “not only is accountable to specific results, but also has the authority to do whatever is necessary to produce these results, and finally, is committed to these results as a personal achievement.”. Many managers get the first part of this equation right. They assign tasks to workers and expect them to achieve predetermined results.

Build a powerful PLN
