For a number of years, I’ve been pondering how the Snowflake Effect 1 could influence learning. For those who are new to this concept of the Snowflake Effect, in essence it’s about the transformation of society from a model of mass production to one of mass personalization. More than 6.6 What’s driving this need? Now this model is inverted.
You know that fun question most of us have pondered at some point that asks “If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a noise?” Or the version my kids preferred when they were young, "If a bear poops in the woods and no one is there, does it still stink?” Using my chart plotter, I laid out my course. Really?
When my kids were very young, we used the term “twitterpated” to describe a person who is particularly taken with something or somebody else or are falling for something or somebody, and are in that state of infatuation or excitement that comes from discovering something special. I don’t know about the rest of you who have your own blogs, but I seem to add many more items to my list of things to write about than I get around to finishing, so my list just grows. Here is one item that I am finally catching up on and which I feel even stronger about than when I was first writing it up several months ago. Intrigued?

Most would agree that Twitter was one of the social networking phenomena of 2008, and has enjoyed exponential growth in popularity. The microblogging tool has obvious potential to be used in formal learning, both in traditional online classroom settings and - through mobile technologies - for mobile learners. In a recent conversation, I was asked what I thought about twitter as a learning tool. Over the course of the past few years I’ve moved from saying “I don’t get it” – to feeling like it’s a good addition to my Learning Tool Set. But I also think that there’s a lot more help now around how to make effective use of Twitter as a learning tool.
