My primary motive in anything tech-related is to figure out how it will limit or enable design. So now that that’s on the table… I’m doing a little playing with Tin Can statements generated by the ADL’s bookmarklet and viewed in SCORM Cloud. To the uninitiated: The idea of a bookmarklet is simple… It’s a snippet of code that you turn into a bookmark or favorite in your browser, and when you’re on a page that you want to do something with, you just click it. That’s it. | ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS OCTOBER 18, 2012 HTML5 and eLearning: What Managers and Practitioners Must Know I’m happy to share that my research report with the eLearning Guild is now live and available to anyone with a paid Guild membership: HTML5 and eLearning: What Managers and Practitioners Must Know. This is the culmination of a couple of years of writing and talking about HTML5 and elearning, but I know that it will open up new questions, as well. Part 1: Thiagi’s 4-Door Model In this short series , I’m highlighting instructional design models that have had profound impacts on my work… specifically those that speak to the creative process, and specifically those that have originated in the practice of creating corporate learning. These areas represent different ways in which the learner can interact with the content of the course and even other learners. | ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS MARCH 1, 2012 #LearningStyles Awareness Day – Catering to Interaction Preferences Instead This post is part of #LearningStyles ‘Awareness Day’ , a day of blogging about a very popular — if very unfounded — concept in our industry. . So I’m just going to share an experience from a workshop I gave recently to my local ASTD chapter , which largely covered choosing training/performance support modalities for different situations. Well… no. What do you think? | ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS OCTOBER 17, 2011 Promising Tools for HTML5 Development I’m pleased to share that I have an article in this month’s T+D: Promising Tools for HTML5 Development. Click on the New Tools for Mobile Learning title on the cover; though that’s not the primary focus of the article, this has not yet been edited on the cover.). Raising your volume also raises people’s defenses. The best way to get people to listen carefully is to lower your voice. People Speak Softest When it Matters Most. To further emphasize a statement, leave plenty of silence both before and after. This is true in visual design as well. Tweet. Audible Audio Book. | | | | | | | | | -

ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS | SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2012 Checking Trivantis’s Claims of HTML5 Publishing in Lectora Yesterday Trivantis published a post on its Everything eLearning Blog titled Did You Know Lectora is the ONLY Major HTML5 Authoring Tool? It’s the most recent of their posts on HTML5 and mlearning that, to the truth, I haven’t seen much of until today. Some parts of the post had me scratching my head and checking for updates to make sure there weren’t new features in Lectora that I wasn’t aware of. Even more of it just muddies the waters on HTML5, mobile delivery, and mobile design… waters that really could use more clarity now, not more confusion. Shall we sum this up? MORE >> -
ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS | MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2012 Tips for WordPress WorkFlow Last night I shared some tips for more efficient blogging at the Portland WordPress Meetup. volunteered to present so that I would have a committment to solve the issues that I’ve encountered in my own workflow — mainly how to take something I find on the Internet, or in my RSS reader, or an idea I have while I only have my iPhone handy, and send quick notes to WordPress so I can finish the post later. That saves time, but even more importantly, it saves attention. Thankfully, people showed up willing to share their own timesavers, so I’ve added their links. MORE >> -
ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS | SUNDAY, JUNE 17, 2012 On The m-Learning Revolution Blog: An Honest Assessment of Adobe Captivate 6 Props to RJ Jacquez, who published An Honest Assessment of Adobe Captivate 6 this week. I’m sure there are plenty who will consider his opinions sour grapes, but being someone who doesn’t grade on a curve, I appreciate critiques that are more than a list of features accompanied by “it’s great for a lot of uses you may want to put it to.” And I’m not even referring to all the features that are unable to make it across to HTML5 (see question types no supported below). Oh and where’s Tin Can support for tracking mLearning? emphasis mine). More Share/Save Options. MORE >> -
ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2012 Becoming a Designer at #UTAOU Some of the participants, learning the visual alphabet from Dave Gray. m going to make what I anticipate is a bold statement: If you’re reading this, you have little or no training in the process of design. Don’t get me wrong. You may have a degree in instructional design. You may have participated in a number of workshops, webinars, and conference sessions on instructional design over the years. You may have read books on learning theory and taken courses to develop your proficiency with authoring software. And don’t feel bad… Frankly, until this last weekend, I hadn’t either. Great. MORE >>
