Finding Answers and Power of Questions

Tony Karrer

I just saw a post by Mike Oehlert on the Power of Questions where he says: So then I read about how Yahoo! , MSN and another service called AnswerBag are valuing the question ( Google Answers is also in the mix along with AllExperts ). These folks are all offering services which allow you to post your question to a community and get answers. Some allow people to offer those answers to you for a small price (couple of dollars).

Learning 1.5 - for those who prefer evolution to revolution

Clive on Learning

This week I had the job of setting up a new Moodle site in order to run a course for a European Union project I am involved in. The people hosting the site (the very capable and modestly-priced pteppic.net , asked me what domain name I wanted for the site. I hadn't really given this any thought, but made a bit of an effort to come up with something that meant something - at least to me.

Yeah! Why don't learning platform vendors open their platform?

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

I'm certain that in the near future they will have no choice but to do exactly that. (from e-clippings) Mark, my friend, I'm scratching my head wondering the same thing. Oh, and those numbers you mention in your question at the end. "What is the value add in paying $100K for something that will takes weeks/months to stand up, when I could possibly pay 1/10th of that and have something turned on today?".

Knowledge and Learning In The News - 9/2/2006

Big Dog, Little Dog

iPods for Learning - Knowledge Jump. So, what is the iPods' value in a corporate setting? For example, you could place an audio and visual guide of your organization on an iPod and send new hires on a "tour" of their own (just like the Museum of Modern Art does), rather than having them wait for a class just to sit through a PowerPoint presentation.

What is Corporate eLearning Development all about?

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

The blog that is.this blog to be specific. I recently had my 1 year blog birthday party (or was it aniversary?) and so now seemed like a good time to reflect on just what the heck this thing is all about. I started Corporate eLearning Development in August of 2005. We affectionately refer to it as the year we lost control. That year in review post also was one of the first signs that I had hit the big time: One of my favorite bloggers Kathy Sierra left a comment.go ahead and scroll down on that

eLearning 1.0 vs. 2.0 - Help Needed

Tony Karrer

I want to try an experiment. I think there's an interesting bit of content in here, but in exchange, I would ask that you maybe throw me a bone and answer a question or two in exchange. I'm still preparing for a couple of presentations at DevLearn and a presentation for ASTD Los Angeles - What's Next in eLearning? (Actually that presentation is virtual so if you read this blog and are interested in attending, I can talk to the organizer.

Better Discussion / Debate in Learning

Tony Karrer

Mark Oehlert post: I long for this kind of debate in our learning circles. talks about something that definitely stuck a chord for me. In particular, he laments that as he was reading a discussion in a different domain and "working on the team picking out sessions for the 2007 ASTD conference " he found himself wanting to have better discussion and debate in our world of learning.

Goodbye LMS?

Evolution or Revolution.I'll take one revolution to go please

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

Another great find from elearnspace. I'm all about the revolution. The post he links to is an outstanding commentary on the change process. Basically, when evolution does not occur then a revolution is required to ANY effective change to occur. This is the current state of learning with corporations and the educational system. Most people are still approaching web2.0 as new tools, and I'm even seeing it in my own company.

Can Brain Science Actually Help Make Your Training & Teaching Stick?

Speaker: Andrew Cohen, Founder & CEO of Brainscape

The instructor’s PPT slides are brilliant. You’ve splurged on the expensive interactive courseware. Student engagement is stellar. So… why are half of your students still forgetting everything they learned in just a matter of weeks? It's likely a matter of cognitive science! With so much material to "teach" these days, we often forget to incorporate key proven principles into our curricula — namely active recall, metacognition, spaced repetition, and interleaving practice.
