Each sample below indicates whether or not it is published as a 'Flash and Mobile' or 'Mobile Only' course. NOTE: These should be compatible with all iOS devices, Android 2.2 | RAPID INTAKE AUGUST 23, 2011 mLearning Best Practices: How Much Content is Too Much for Mobile Learning? Since we released mLearning Studio , (our rapid mobile learning development toolset) and whenever I present at conferences, I'm asked the question, "What kinds of content and how much content is appropriate for mobile learning?" Underlying this question is an assumption that we should approach learning content consumption via mobile devices differently. Sometimes I hear people continue, ".because | | | | | | | RAPID INTAKE MAY 10, 2011 Mobile Learning: Two Ways to Communicate With the SCORM LMS One of the biggest challenges facing mobile learning course authors today is how to communicate with the learning management system (LMS). Most LMSes are either SCORM or AICC conformant. These are two standards that makes sure that courses can communicate student data with a wide variety of LMSes, regardless of the vendor. More to come on that later. | RAPID INTAKE NOVEMBER 21, 2011 Convert PowerPoint to Mobile Learning - How To In this entry, I'm going to show you how to do a fundamental PowerPoint conversion for mobile learning that includes audio narration. For the authoring tool, we'll use Rapid Intake's mLearning Studio. This tutorial assumes that you have a PowerPoint that includes audio narration. There are three main steps. We'll review those, then get into the details of each main step. That's it in a nutshell. | RAPID INTAKE FEBRUARY 9, 2011 5 Reasons Flash is NOT dying.give me a break! Sorry for shouting in the title, but I am fed up with people saying Flash is dying. That it's old technology. That HTML5 is the ultimate replacement. That it shouldn't be allowed to go forward. Come on! Give me a break! It is making me ill. Perhaps we've all just turned into Steve Jobs sycophants, sucked into his 'reality distortion field', repeating what he says because it is the latest fad. Will Flash lose some market share to HTML5? Will it die? Not a chance! Is HTML5 the best technology for cross-platform mobile development? But again, that doesn't mean the demise of Flash is anywhere near. | RAPID INTAKE FEBRUARY 27, 2012 5 Strategies for Rapid eLearning Development - Strategy #2 Invest in a Primary Toolkit Last year, I learned to bake bread. Now I can throw together bread and dinner rolls that make the main course look like shoe leather. This year, I turn my attention to basic wood working. So, I sat down and made a list of the things I thought I needed. Wood, saw, nails, glue, measuring tape etc. Then I went to the "hardware wonderland" for several hours, and I was inundated with "tool messaging". This one, is a saw, sander, and router. This set of 8 different tools, uses the same battery. This gadget.that tool. Finally, I came out with the following thoughts. No tool can do everything. One saw? | | | | | | | | | -

RAPID INTAKE | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2011 Adobe Drops Flash for Mobile - What Does it Mean for mLearning and eLearning? This morning Adobe stated that it will no longer develop the Flash player for mobile devices in favor of throwing their support behind HTML5 development. This will likely be a blow to Android device manufacturers who have counted on the Flash player support as one of the main differentiations from Apple devices, but what does it mean for e-learning and m-learning developers? For mobile learning it won't have much of an impact. Because of the need for cross-platform compatibility (i.e. So this decision will only bolster HTML5 as the platform of choice for mobile learning solutions. MORE >> -
RAPID INTAKE | TUESDAY, APRIL 19, 2011 Instructional Patterns in eLearning: Using Branching Scenario Simulations to Move From Information to Application Instructional patterns surface over time as best practices that have bubbled up to the top of instructional design usage. Over time, instructional designers approaches to the same instructional problem coalesce around a similar, if not identical, scalable solutions. Scalable means they meet the need in most situations and are not cost nor time prohibitive to create. One such instructional problem and pattern involve how to teach soft skills. Soft skills have no definite right or wrong. How are these valuable role plays translated to the e-learning and mobile learning environment? MORE >> -
RAPID INTAKE | THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 2012 5 Strategies for Rapid eLearning Development - Strategy #3 Build an Asset/Media Library My students often laugh at me when I say, "You need to go to the library." They grew up with a completely different strategy for research. Google first, Google second, if you don't see you topic on the first page, change topics. That's where search engines fail us a bit, and where the good old library can sometimes be a better resource. Think about it. In order to search for materials you need to know the right key terms, if you miss a relevant key term, then you may miss search results that would be helpful. Now think about a library, you search on a subject, find a book you think you need. MORE >> -
RAPID INTAKE | FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2011 Mobile Learning: Course Interface Design for Smartphones (e.g. iPhone) Versus Tablets (e.g. iPad) When designing a course for mobile devices we have to make a fundamental decision: are we going to design the course for both smartphones or tablets.or If we choose to support smartphones, we don't have a lot of screen real estate. How do we account for that? If we choose to support tablets, we have a lot more screen real estate. How do we take advantage of that? Smartphones First off, what we are designing is a content-based experience. It's not a game. It's not a calculator of some kind. It's media-based (audio, video, animation) or interactive content (quizzes, games, simulations). MORE >>
