I increasingly view email in the same way I do physical post – quaint, idiosyncratic and evocative of a bygone era. Email just seems so clunky nowadays and so outdated. The level of spam email we all receive doesn’t help. Even with spam filters and email rules about a third of my emails are things I delete without reading. So if email is old school, what’s new school?

There are now a number of ‘rapid’ elearning authoring tools that enable ‘anyone’ to author elearning content. And yes, this is true. But only in the same way that word processing software enables anyone to write a book. Don’t get me wrong; some of these tools are great and you can produce excellent content with them. However there is a lot more to it than buying the software and reading the manual.

I’ve just returned from helping out at a film shoot. A friend asked for volunteers to lend a hand. I’ve always been fascinated by the mechanics of film making so jumped at the chance. I have some experience of shooting interviews and simple location video for use in elearning projects and was expecting a handful of enthusiastic amateurs mucking about with camcorders.

I had the great pleasure of speaking at the IITT’s Training 2010 conference in the Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square in London this week. The event was very well attended and expertly Chaired by Don Taylor. The highlights for me were the after dinner speech by Donald Clark and also the sessions by Clive Shepherd and Liz Cable. The venue was fantastic, the food was great and the wine was free, so we were off to a good start.
