How to Harness Informal Learning

Picture the scene… an increasingly frustrated Bob is trying to work out where a particular field is on a database. After much poking around, he finally calls across to Sally, his colleague, to ask if she knows where it is. Sally, who rather fancies herself as a database expert, is happy to oblige and shows him where to enter the data. Informal learning, like the scenario above, takes place constantly in most organisations.

As you may have guessed from other postings on this blog, transmedia is something I’m very interested in. Why? Because it bridges two of my great passions; learning technologies and film. But why should you consider it? 1. Many people now have smartphones. In two years time, almost everyone will have a phone that can run apps, access the web, view and shoot video, play and record audio, run games and more.

Ongoing Deep Recon into the World of Transmedia

Don’t know what transmedia is? Check out my previous blog posting here. It certainly seems to be transmedia conference season at the moment. After my trip to Geneva I was tempted by the Power to the Pixel London Forum 2010 held in the British Film Institute. Much bigger than the TEDx Transmedia event in Geneva and with many case studies being shared I simply couldn’t resist.

TEDx Transmedia Conference – An Inspiration

I recently had the great pleasure of attending the TEDx Transmedia conference hosted by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva, Switzerland. TEDx are an offshoot of the famous TED talks of “ideas worth sharing” Transmedia is a method of storytelling that extends the storyworld into the real world, where the audience participate and can affect the outcome of the story.
