Jones and I are doing a session at Training 2010 titled Defining Your Social Learning Strategy. As prep for this, we’ve put together a comprehensive checklist of Social Learning Strategy topics that learning professionals and executives should consider when thinking through their objectives and plans. Here is a link to the doc, but if you would prefer to read it in-line, the full body of the doc is below. Let me know what you think we missed and we’ll update it. Introduction to Social Learning Strategies. Checklist of Social Learning Strategies. What do you want it to be? | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG MAY 12, 2010 A Defense of the LMS (and a case for the future of Social Learning) For some time now, I’ve seen a growing negativity toward LMS solutions by a pretty wide group folks in our space. Many of whom I really respoect. I see it in blog posts, comments, posts, LrnChat discussions, and all sorts of places. One post I saw even suggested that Google Analytics could be used to replace reporting in an LMS (arguably the most ridiculous thing I’ve read in some time). Suffice to say I don’t buy any of the above arguments and I largely disagree with my professional colleagues. Not even close. This is an “AND join. It’s time someone said so. | | | | | | | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG MAY 11, 2009 The Truth About Twitter A few days ago, I reached that point where you can’t hear any more bullshit without correcting it. I actually called into a radio station to correct yet another pundit who, on the basis of the name alone or maybe 10 minutes worth of playing, thinks they understand Twitter, and worse, that they can summarily dismiss anyone who uses it as flaky. So here’s my attempt to educate those folks who either a) haven’t tried it, b) have tried and are still new, or c) don’t use it often enough or in the right context to see it’s real power. Ok, you’re right. Links. | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG SEPTEMBER 18, 2009 Social Learning Strategies, Models, and Roles I’m presenting a new deck tomorrow at a pretty big company. I’m not sure that I can name them so I’m going to err on the side of caution. The basic gist of the talk and the follow-up workshop is “ typing your social learning initiative. Many months ago I came up with this idea of “typing learning needs in a similar fashion to a Myers Briggs. | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG FEBRUARY 3, 2010 Slides from Keynote at Training 2010 Slides. had the great pleasure to present a keynote address yesterday at Training 2010. While I’ve presented at dozens and dozens of conferences over the years, this was my first true keynote. Was I nervous? Yeah, I have to admit, just a bit. Complicating matters was the fact that the other keynote presenter (they had two back-to-back) was significantly delayed as a result of air travel issues. So my directions were to basically go on stage not knowing whether I was going to need to be on for 30 min, 45 min, 60 min or even more. For now, I just want to give you the slides. | SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG MARCH 18, 2010 Social Learning Assessment and Recommendation Tool Ok, I know I’m so way behind on posting. I despair of ever getting back into any sort of rythym. Ironically, I’ve never been more active on the social front, but the majority is happening in person at industry events. I can’t even count the number of venues I’ve spoken at this year. And I’m reworking entire websites within Learn.com to be much more social and collaborative — all using our own technologies of course. I’ve also been pretty active in creating assets like this one: ECCO Assessment. Anyway, have at it. Hope you find some value in thi | | | | | | | | | -
SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG | SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 2009 Attribution in a Web 2.0 World Part 2 Many moons ago I wrote a post about attribution in a web 2.0 and the need to ruthlessly cite and attribute, not just to give credit to the original author, but to provide a way for your audience to dig deeper. As disappointed as I have been with mainstream media in this regard, my fellow bloggers are showing how it should be done. Check out this post by Daniel Stevens (@dstev on Twitter). While his whole post is a great model of attribution in this new world, I also think Daniel hits on a “big concept when he writes: I’m also talking to you, Jane Bozarth. In a web 2.0 Done and done. SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2009 The Learning Long Tail Webinar and Article So hey look at this – a new blog post! Crazy I know. For those of you that have been waiting, my apologies. I totally underestimated the effort of onboarding at a fast moving company like Learn.com. The good news is that I’m back and with a bang… I’ve written two articles in the past month for Learning Solutions magazine and I’m doing a webinar this coming week with none other than Ray Jimenez. Hoo ra! Then just a few weeks from now, I’ll be doing a webinar with Claire Schooley of Forrester, then another with Bersin & Associates. Crazy right? MORE >> -
SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BLOG | MONDAY, MAY 17, 2010 Personal Brand, Professional Brand, and Perceived Bias in Social Media So apprarently, my spirited defense about LMS value and role in the future of our industry has kicked off a lively debate. I’m glad. As I noted to Janet Clarey ( @jclarey ) a few nights ago on Twitter, I think it’s long overdue. will admit that I’m a bit disappointed by the lack of comment by other vendors. I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt though as it’s a very tough line to walk when we as vendors or employees of vendors start engaging in these kinds of debates. Do we mention what competitors are doing? know Tom Stone is out there too, but who else? MORE >> -
