The Best from Social Learning and Communities of Practice

In a word, yes.   I’m sure it seems to some of you that Google’s always got some new “cool&# thing, but trust me, you need to check out Google Wave.  Google ’s latest collaboration tool has lots of really neat ideas, concepts and technology.  Here’s what I found most interesting: It is all about email.
Building on what I was discussing yesterday – the military knows how to do social learning.  Workforce Magazine recently did a piece called The Power of Community  by Sarah Fister Gale that looks at the benefits of communities, and how they can be used for future learning events. The article is well worth a read.

Busy day today at the Enterprise 2.0 was on a customer panel on social computing earlier today with Microsoft, EA, Batellle, Watson Wyatt, and the MN Dept of Education.  Great panel with lots of excellent insights on making enteprise 2.0 actually work within the business context.  from our new guide. In 2007, when children's marketing research firm KidSay asked boys what virtual worlds or online games they had visited in the past two weeks, 35 percent of boys aged 8 to 11 replied "none." Most would agree that Twitter was one of the social networking phenomena of 2008, and has enjoyed exponential growth in popularity. The microblogging tool has obvious potential to be used in formal learning, both in traditional online classroom settings and - through mobile technologies - for mobile learners. In a recent conversation, I was asked what I thought about twitter as a learning tool. Over the course of the past few years I’ve moved from saying “I don’t get it” – to feeling like it’s a good addition to my Learning Tool Set. But I also think that there’s a lot more help now around how to make effective use of Twitter as a learning tool.
