Skills Gap There's a great post by Catherine Lombardozzi - Learning 2.0 that discusses the skills that "many employees … well beyond school … could use help in developing … skills are different." She goes on to list out the skills and I think it's quite a good list. When I combined this with a common theme across a lot of my writing and on Work Literacy : Tool Set 2009 ASTD Follow-Up I'm more convinced all the time that there's a gap in awareness and skills among Concept Workers.

Since the announcement of my bank's acquisition my e-learning projects have been cancelled. So, I have returned to the classroom to teach online professional networking, which has a focus on using LinkedIn. I am not new to teaching face-to-face classes, but I have not done it on a consistent basis since 2002. Reading an article in Game Developer about some of the Bay Area history of the video game industry has made me reflective. As an undergrad (back before there really were programs in instructional technology) I saw the link between computers and learning, and it’s been my life ever since.

One article that I wrote seems to get more attention than any other, it is called How Long Does it Take? Estimation Methods for Developing E-Learning and while the formulas and ideas in the article are up-to-date (written in 2003), one section really needs to be updated. That is the section on Industry Standards. I have a feeling some of those numbers may have changed but I'd like to seek confirmation.

I've been exploring Ning a little further than I did and compared it to other forums like socialgo, collectivex and grou.ps. Gro.ups is open source, has a lot of similar functionalities to ning (and more- you can upload files easily) and is also without advertisements (for free!). The advantage of ning is that it is slightly more attractive in look and feel.

Saw a blog post from Alan Cann over at the University of Leicester this evening which got me thinking. His post was entitled ' Twitter drives traffic to blogs and social networks ', and in it he claims that Twitter is the semantic web. He has a great poem on his site called ' The Semantic Web will not be Televised ' which expresses this idea perfectly.

I read the book 'Grown up digital' by Don Tapscott. I was curious to understand more about the generational differences. I've definitely not grown up digital; I almost missed the introduction of digital technologies because I was living in a village in Mali that did not even have telephone or electricity. Often when I mention generational differences, people start whiping the issue under the carpet by refering to their grandma who is 86 and skypes with her daughter in Australia.

Ever wanted to be a cartoonist, but can't draw? Welcome to my world. Anyway, I came across ToonDoo.com today and this website is letting me live my dream (free of charge!). I can now easy make cartoons by simply dragging and dropping backgrounds, characters, and props, etc. Try it. You'll like it. Here's a sample 3 panel cartoon that I made - it took me about 10 mins.

I have completed developing my first course in Lectora and it is ready to run inside the LMS. The LMS I am using is Saba. This is important to note because each LMS handles SCORM content slightly differently and some SCORM related settings must be adjusted appropriately. For this course, I am not requiring a passing score for an assessment. Instead, I am requiring the learner to have simply completed a series of simulations and a non-binding assessment at the end.
