To provide effective instruction, it needs to be as authentic to the actual experience as possible. The context of an online course or the context of a classroom is not authentic. As reported on MSNBC , Thrun said: "Having done this, I can't teach at Stanford again. All she needed to do to wrap up the project was get the finished lesson posted to her LMS and ensure it reported correctly. And  And that, unfortunately, is where she ran into trouble. The lesson simply would not work once posted to the LMS. The developer contacted me. While I had never used her LMS, I have successfully posted and tested several Captivate lessons to myriad systems. The word 'training' is unfashionable, so much so that at one recent conference it was referred to as 'the T word'. As a result, just about every self-respecting trainer has been relabelled with a title that centres on 'the L word' (whether or not their role has changed or not). Yet when I first entered the profession I was perfectly happy to be called a Training Specialist. Of course, training is just one of many inputs that can be applied to vocational learning, alongside experiential learning, self-directed learning and all forms of connected and collaborative learning.
