I stumbled across an interesting paper linked to in a post by Karl Kapp. The paper describes a Professor of Reading’s teachers experience and learning from playing digital games and describes some of the learning principles good games incorporate. In fact, nothing happens until a player acts and makes decisions.

We’ve recently been delivering simple content just-in-time for access through the websites that are designed to run on mobile devices. It was easier said than done, here are some lessons we picked up along the way. One goal of the design would be identifying target devices that potential users will have. Almost all major platforms have emulators.

Tween's playing a video game. Most of them do on a regular basis. In 2007, when children's marketing research firm KidSay asked boys what virtual worlds or online games they had visited in the past two weeks, 35 percent of boys aged 8 to 11 replied "none." In a recent conversation, I was asked what I thought about twitter as a learning tool. Over the course of the past few years I’ve moved from saying “I don’t get it” – to feeling like it’s a good addition to my Learning Tool Set. But I also think that there’s a lot more help now around how to make effective use of Twitter as a learning tool.

Second Life truly is a phenomenon. It is exactly what the name and vision imply: an example of a parallel "multiverse". People will learn much in it, as they might alternatively learn via participating on a real -world sports team, running a real-world lemonade stand, or walking around a great real-world city.
