GeoLearning’s GeoMaestro is a LMS that packs a wallop but at the same time has some features that provide limitations. What is really nice about GeoMaestro is that GeoLearning has thought long and hard about this issue and has solved it. Plus, if you do not want it, it can be removed. that is really something you want.

Prior to the whole online scene, you could access information via FTP sites known as Archie, Veronica and Jughead (yes, totally true. In 2000, I built my own LMS for a company, and was hired to create an e-learning program for customer training, as well as run a training division with ILT still in play (blended). Naysayers continue to pontificate on information that is just wrong. My LMS did, back in 2000. It was that way even back in 2000. LXP focuses on learners and their continuous development (The LMS doesn’t do this) This ties into another perspective around learner-centric methods and informal. Yet here we are.

I think informal/formal was designed and suited for ILT, not e-learning, because from the days of Corporate in 2000, you could do informal with your LMS. And in 2002, many more – I used Geolearning – it offered lots of informal options. Formal/Informal – Speaking of which, dump it.

When done right the data can identify certain longitudinal information, forecasts and other useful analytics. Geolearning (may they rest in piece) was the first vendor to have a “gallery” whereas you can have sponsors images if you will on a wall, like an art gallery. But there is plenty of hogwash there, nevertheless.

The administration side can be overwhelming – sometimes too much information isn’t a good thing. SumTotal ruined IMO the GeoLearning LMS known as Maestro and will Skillsoft buying SumTotal, I wondered to myself whether this would be great or awful. I’m not kidding, I think I saw icons that were hot in 2000.
