Why is Instructional Design Trending Downward.since 2004?

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

The graphic above comes from trends.google.com using the search term "instructional design".  This is a bit surprising to me as I see online training becoming more and more popular every day. I see the digital marketing world promoting the online courses as another great form of content. I see more and more bloggers in the world of online training. And of course the blog aggregation

“SCORM 2004 is dying (if not already dead!).” For the careful observer there are many signs to support this view, and here are a few of them: Sign #1: 75% of packages are still on SCORM 1.2, 10 years after the initial release of SCORM 2004 [1] [2]. Sign #2: There is no certification process for tools and packages for the latest SCORM 2004 4 th edition. Low adoption. frameset?

Carr-Chellman & Savoy (2004) provide a broad overview of user design. According to Carr-Chellman & Savoy (2004), traditional instructional design methodologies disenfranchise the user from the design process. Carr-Chellman & Savoy (2004) carefully distinguish user design from other methodologies of user-oriented design, namely user-centered design and emancipatory design.

Here’s a peek at the eight trends from 2004. --1-- Drastic times, drastic measures. It seems like the workplace trends and advice for practioners from ASTD’s 2004 article still apply. By Shelley A. Gable. cleaned my bookshelf the other day, which included moving out stacks of old magazines. immediately thought, “I wonder if those trends are still relevant.”. Even the advice for practitioners still rings true.

One of those days!

The Learning Generalist

Today was a tough day off work!! Firstly there was a scheduled power cut between 10:30AM to 5:30PM which kept me unwired for the better part of the day. I had to use the gas-stove to cook my meal and for a person who hates cooking, it can be quite an ordeal. At around 4:30 PM, the tax consultant came down to my place and started coaxing me into taking a Jeevan Anand policy. every year. Thanx d00d.

Today Vijay , Paul and I went to watch Fahrenheit 9/11. After having watched almost 2 and a half hours of Bush bashing, I came to the conclusion that the film was more of a Democrat election campaign than an unbiased documentary. Over the last five years, George W Bush has been the butt of many jokes. But I believe that at some point of time one needs to give the devil his due. And I second that.

I've just finished fiddling with the archives on the T+D magazine Website so that there's now more free content (albeit with required registration--not my decision). There are certain articles and columns that we sell on the ASTD store each month. But I figured it made sense to open up the articles we don't sell.

If you're like me and have a Google toolbar ( here's the official one and here's one for Firefox) right on your browser, you may not often visit the Google homepage. But you should make a point of dropping by each day during the Olympics. Google's Dennis Hwang is doing a different Olympic drawing each day, with a person in a toga engaging in one sport or another. Yesterday was a swimmer in a pool, I believe, and today it's an archer. Very cute and clever.

Anxiety good for memory recall, bad for complex problem solving

Big Dog, Little Dog

Students, keep this in mind before that next major exam: Pre-test jitters make it easier to recall memorized facts, but that stress also makes it tough to solve more complex problems. Researchers at Ohio State University gave a battery of simple cognitive tests to 19 first-year medical students one to two days before a regular classroom exam -- a period when they would be highly stressed.
