In this scary version, the LMS vendor is holding off implementing the Tin Can API until they see how it plays out. This is the same fear mind you, of two years ago, when you asked vendors if they were going to focus on mobile learning with tablets. As they do not want to take the time to implement it into their system and tweak it as necessary. For other versions, like SCORM 2004 3rd edition, I know quite a few vendors who didn’t see value in it/had challenges with adding it – time consuming as one vendor told me. Why can’t it be part of the LMS?

The argument that you have to spend over 50K to find a sweet LMS is totally bogus. What is true is that there are plenty of awesome systems for less than 25K and even sweet systems with very nice feature sets for under 10K. I’m not talking about freebies such as Moodle or Sakai, but actually commercial systems. These are folks who are going to use your system. In my experience, small businesses (500 or less users) are the ideal audience for a low cost system. Are there low cost systems for the education market? AJ LMS - UI is average.

Moodle can be a worthwhile system but it requires heavy customization, dedicated IT person who has Moodle skill sets (ideal), in-house support (because when end users can’t figure it out – they will come calling YOU) and costs that many folks fail to realize. In just the past few weeks, I’ve heard from many folks on my social media channels talking about how game based learning is poor, at least from what they have seen. I often find myself daydreaming when dealing with LMS problems. I say to myself, "If I built an LMS, it would…… " Ah, if only it were that easy. This line of thinking leads me to these questions: How would you design your perfect LMS? How would it differ from current LMS products on the market?
