Online Learning Works – So Why are Schools Failing at it?

In the late 90’s led by Blackboard, more institutions of higher education and even some schools were joining the online learning experience. An estimated 700,000 students (K-12) took at least one online course in 2005-2006 (Piccano and Seaman, 2007). 28 States (Fall 2007) had online high school programs (Tucker, 2007).

More and more educational resources began to emerge from this point, including BlackBoard in 1997 and SmartThinking in 1999. Research undertaken by the National Center for Education Statistics revealed that, between 2002 and 2005, 65% more K-12 students enrolled in online distance learning programs.

I left TAFE in 2006 to set up an elearning department for one of the private mining RTO’s here in Queensland before starting my own business late 2007. We matched it against the likes Blackboard, Moodle and Janison it wins hands down. Then after a lot of research I came across the eFront LMS. I loved the system.
