First, it looks as though Linden Labs, the developers behind Second Life, may be downsizing their corporate efforts ( Second Life Enterprise Edition ). Two sources indicate that Linden may actually be shutting down their Enterprise operations. Some interesting developments in the 3D Learning and Collaboration Space.

A whole new world

Its currency is the Linden Dollar (L$) which avatars can use to buy virtual goods and even virtual property. Linden Dollars are bought with real money and can be exchanged back again. As of 7 July 2008, L$265 = US$1. Avatars can also socialise with other avatars via text chat, and more recently, real voice.

For me it holds many memories of speaking to large and appreciative audiences, the remains of the Berlin Wall, the Checkpoint Charlie museum, Christmas markets, Unter den Linden, Alexanderplatz, Ka De We, and the Brandenburg Gate. For many, OEB is the uber-conference for e-learning. In response he said 'It will be nice when it's finished.'
