I was just asked about trends in open source for eLearning and particularly open source eLearning tools. Probably one of the better sources on this is Jane Hart’s Instructional Tools Directory. In addition, she indicates if they are free or cost money – which is not quite the same thing as open source. Here’s some of what I pulled out.

Rapid eLearning Tools Satisfaction from the eLearningGuild Research reported Feb 2007 - Course Authoring and Rapid eLearning Tool Satisfaction See also Software Simulation Tools. Page update Mar 2008. Of course, they were more looking at PPT conversion tools. In June 2007, I added a few more rapid eLearning tools.

Online authoring tools not so novel

My prediction was that in 2008 we'd see more online rapid e-learning authoring environments come onto the market and the reason I claimed that this prediction was on target was because of the announcements by established authoring tool vendors of two very promising new online products, Unison from Rapid Intake and RapideL-i.

On January 3rd I laid out my e-learning predictions for 2008. " I was either inspired or lucky (you choose) because since then a beta of RapideL-i was announced and then earlier this week I was treated to a sneak preview of a new tool called Unison from Rapid Intake , the makers of Flashform.
