Another friend cancelled out of Training 2009 after only two people signed up for his pre-conference workshop. I was just uninvited from presenting at eLearning Guild’s Annual Gathering. At least I didn’t have to eat a plane ticket, as happened to a friend in Europe who was just uninvited to the same event.

I think I’ll shoot for a dozen unworkshops in 2009. It lets my inner performer loose. However, what with the advance planning, travel, prep, and follow-up, a one-day event can consume a week. Given the economy, I expect some of these will be working sessions where we identify how to slash costs while boosting performance.

According to a survey released last month that was conducted by the industry trade group Meeting Professionals International and American Express, 7 percent of business meetings already scheduled for 2009 have been canceled. And attendance is expected to be down by about 5 percent at those meetings that are still being held, the survey found.
