Most of the dollars are spent on formal events such as ILT classroom and eLearning rather than informal and social learning concepts or initiatives. Ironically, the real benefit is felt moreso during informal and/or social learning exchanges. Which brings me to Learnerprise 2.0. Andrew McAfee has coined the term Enterprise 2.0 as: the use of emergent social software platforms within companies, or between companies and their partners or customers. When I was a kid, I had a dream that I’d have a Bachelors by 20, Masters by 30 and Doctorate by 40. Given life’s development with our household having a six, four and two year old, the doctorate by 40 is just not going to happen. Unless, there is another way. Peter Rawsthorne got me thinking in a recent Twitter post. Drive this into the open and see what happens. Walk the talk when it comes to my Learning and Collaboration theorem/lifestyle, and go through a PhD 2.0 | | | | | | | | | -
BRAVE NEW ORG | SATURDAY, JANUARY 8, 2011 Lurking is Learning (Part 1 of 2) In her 2009 paper entitled Review of Learning 2.0 To those that have questioned whether all online participants must actively contribute to a blog, wiki, etc. in order to actually learn, I say bunkum. Hogwash. Claptrap. Bollocks. Learning is a process. Learning is different to all of us. Approaches to how we as individuals learn is unique and for those critics and pundits ‘out there’ who continue to perpetuate the myth that unless one is contributing back, one isn’t learning, well simply put … I have a problem with you. Lurking can and should be thought of in better terms. learning 2.0 MORE >> -

In the corporate world where deadlines are rampant, constant innovation is indispensable, workloads are mounting, and financial pressures are omnipresent, it’s no wonder the employees of many organisations feel as though they are disconnected from one another. BRAVE NEW ORG | THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2013 Flexible Working Works In 2009, Cisco reported its telecommuting and flexible work environment not only increased productivity and job satisfaction, it saved the company $277 million. In a landmark 2007 paper published in the Journal of Applied Psychology called “ The Good, the Bad, and the Unknown About Telecommuting: Meta-Analysis of Psychological Mediators and Individual Consequences ”, authors Ravi Gajendran and David Harrison of the Department of Management and Organization at Pennsylvania State University dispelled the notion that working from home was bad for business or bad for employee morale. BRAVE NEW ORG | MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2011 Review: SharePoint Conference 2011 This was the first SharePoint conference since the Fall of 2009. My overarching impression post conference is that attendees, speakers and Microsoft are now (some would say finally) on the ‘social train’ In 2009 there were relatively few sessions focused on social, and even those were sparsely populated in terms of attendance. I recently had the opportunity to attend and speak at SharePoint Conference 2011 in Anaheim, California along with roughly 8,000 other attendees. The social focused sessions were jammed pack, overflowing at times. That’s the good news. MORE >> -

It could be argued that however it’s referred to, wherever it’s offered, teacher preparation programs (sometimes referred to as ITE – Initial Teacher Education) are the cause of a continued reliance on the all-instructor-led model and less on a formal, informal, social mix of pedagogy or andragogy. These programs are otherwise known as the gateway to the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree; the entitlement to professionally teach, at least in the K-12 arena. That’s it? Well, there’s more. graduated from a B.Ed and, if there is one, teach to the provincial exam). If we can reshape the B.Ed MORE >>
