Many thanks must go to e-learning developers Epic for putting together this event and allowing their own industry to be placed under the microscope. The motion was as follows: "This house believes that the e-learning of today is essential for the important skills of tomorrow." As a result, much of the debate was about what e-learning should be rather than whether it should be at all. serious gaming, etc. | ELEMENT K BLOG NOVEMBER 8, 2009 The Modalities of Blended Learning In the July issue of Chief Learning Officer magazine, Cushing Anderson reports some interesting data on the various learning modalities that comprise "blended learning" in organizations (see "Cost and Availability Drive Modality Mix" ). The subhead for his article states quite clearly a point I've been making throughout this year in my presentations on how to blend the latest technologies with traditional formal learning, namely that "CLOs are increasingly trying to apply the right delivery option for the content, audience, and environment." | | | | | | | UPSIDE LEARNING BLOG DECEMBER 22, 2009 Blending Learning with Social Technology Components The adjacent diagram represents just what converting such a program to a modern blend might look like. Each blend is unique and purposed to address a specific need. unleashed a wave of tools that facilitate learning by leveraging social networks and informal channels. A lot of companies today face a resource situation that’s not unique in this age. Web 2.0 | ELEARNING BROTHERS DECEMBER 9, 2009 Is Classroom Training More Credible than Online Training? Recently at a round-table discussion about eLearning in the Commercial Lending industry an interesting point surfaced periodically: “Why is classroom training perceived as being more credible than online training?. think that this varies a bit by industry (and commercial banking is not known to be pioneers in the latest technology) but many people believe that classroom training is the “best way. Learning is acceptable as a “second-best option but will not work as well as a classroom session. Why does this perception? What do you think? | MINUTEBIO JUNE 20, 2009 Where Organizations Go Wrong With e-Learning A post on e-Learning Guild’s group on LinkedIn asked, “In What Ways Do Organizations Get eLearning Wrong? Not knowing the difference between an e-learning designer and an e-learning developer. Again, an e-learning/instructional designer is needed to create engaging, instructionally sound courses. needs assessment, even if done informally, is the only way to identify the audience’s learning needs, if any. Not identifying if e-learning is an appropriate medium for specific training needs. | THIRDFORCE BLOG JULY 24, 2009 Being aware of e-learning gaps… Clive Shepherds recent presentation on The E-learning Skills Gap , again highlighted the rapidly changing environment we live in today. Although, as he says most educational and training methods are relatively timeless, for instance coaching, discovery, networking, role-play, practice to name a few, advances in science and technology along with expectations mean changes are necessary. With Generation Y poised to shortly take over the world, they are a driving force behind how learning and training is evolving. 20 per cent said it was not having a computer. | | | | | | | | | -

CLIVE ON LEARNING | TUESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2009 CIPD's blended learning manifesto One element of this is the section on Learning and Talent Development, which can be downloaded here. In the past, I have been openly critical of the competency frameworks for those working in l&d offered up by professional bodies in general, because of the over-emphasis on classroom training, and scant regard for alternative media, not least the various forms of e- learning. Well, first the name - learning and talent development. According to the document, this brings together ' training and development activity, coaching and career development'. MORE >> -

THE LEARNING GENERALIST | SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2010 I'm Sorry - Training isn't a Bad Word "We're dropping use of the word ' training.' Replacing it with learning? Training materials? Learning is what I do for myself I hope " training" is discontinued on an ongoing bases - requirements change. More sunset laws for training programs.
