Open Source eLearning Tools
OCTOBER 13, 2010
I was just asked about trends in open source for eLearning and particularly open source eLearning tools. Probably one of the better sources on this is Jane Hart’s Instructional Tools Directory. You can find a long list of tools broken into authoring tools, games/simulations, quiz/test tools, social media, delivery platforms, tracking and whether they support mobile. Beyond that, probably the best thing to do is to use eLearning Learning to go through it’s open source eLearning and open source eLearning Tools.
Tool Set 2009
JANUARY 5, 2009
I thought I'd kick off this year by posting a series of posts on topics related to tools and methods for work and learning. I'm hoping to address questions such as: How do you create a personal tool set or Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for yourself? What should be in your tool set? What are the most important methods to adopt in addition to the tools? Should twitter be part of your tool set? Setting up a SharePoint for a community or work team is very different from teaching them about Personal Learning. What is a Tool Set?

Microsoft Launches ELearning Add-On
JUNE 3, 2014
The global success of Articulate is well known in the elearning field, and it appears that Microsoft would like to steal a bit of market share as well! In 2009, Articulate Studio took-off as a Microsoft PowerPoint add-on for this very purpose. It kind of reminds me of the screen snipping tool they developed that pales in comparison to the robust options out there today.
Audio in E-Learning
NOVEMBER 3, 2009
Audio is a powerful and impactful tool, but it is often used incorrectly within e-learning courses. common question is "Should we have audio in the e-learning module that exactly matches the text on the screen?" It’s not that you can’t learn from audio and text, it is just that the learning is more productive if the two are separate (audio that enhances what is on the screen not repeats it word-for-word). And research show that is not the best for learning. The general answer is no. Here are some reasons why.

Times are changing – trends in the content authoring tool market
JULY 20, 2011
There are 124 authoring tools in my latest directory, of which 30 are SaaS or a combination of desktop and SaaS – which really what is the point of that? Even though more tools are adding the features of collaborative and peer review (more on that in a sec) they are still heavy geared towards a desktop solution. believe though, that will be higher, especially with these tools meeting and honestly beating some major league competitors. While there are SaaS tools that do not yet offer this feature, it will change. Mobile Learning. Learning 24/7.

Do Microcourses Have a Place in Workplace Learning?
DECEMBER 28, 2009
From Wikipedia – Microlearning deals with relatively small learning units and short-term learning activities.
