Day 28: Golden EdTech oldies

Technology Enhanced Learning Blog

Nearly at the end of the June EdTech Challenge … and with day 28 we’re asked about our ‘golden EdTech oldies’ For me the most standout, as an ‘oldie’ (the presentation, not James) was James Clay and his 2009 ALTC presentation ‘The VLE is dead’: James Clay, 2009 ALTC – The VLE is dead.

To be honest, at some point in the run up to the ALT-C 2009 conference, I got this idea. There were many people at a session titled " the VLE is Dead " hosted by James Clay, Josie Fraser, Graham Attwell, Nick Sharratt and Steve Wheeler aka Timbuckteeth :). Martin Weller blogged about the death of VLE/LMS too in Nov 2007.

Games for girls

Check out this little gem from Dan Kennedy on the VLE/PLE debate. Games based learning is currently a hotly debated topic in education and is a fertile field of study (Holmes, 2011; Abrams, 2009). It''s also very motivating for them. Some of my previous students have published in journals in the past few years.
