So I’ve decided to go to TechKnowledge almost laptop-free. (As It’s not on the app stores yet, but there will be a conference app and you’ll definitely want it to help you plan your conference experience. While I like my laptop, I’ve gotten very tired of lugging it around conferences, and my mobile devices get better battery life and pick up WiFi signal better than my laptop anyway.

This helps her assess the learner’s level of understanding prior to doing some hands-on activities. Let them know that the learning journal is their personal training manual that they can always reference later if they need more help. It’s a good idea to do schedule some debrief activities with the peer coaches because they’ll help you build the best training program. Notes.

We need to use story elements, plot, characters, resolution, scene setting to help put learning back into context. Providing frequent opportunities for students to respond during a lesson helps with learning as shown in research.

I recently attended the American Society for Training and Development’s 2012 TechKnowledge conference , where over 1,200 attendees and 70 exhibitors got together in Las Vegas to talk about training, do some networking, and discuss the future of learning and technology. Big Data is a term that you may not of heard of before but will hear a great deal of in the near future.

Because I knew the business and had helped design our software package, and because I was pretty good in front of a crowd, I ended up doing the training. ASTD’s TechKnowledge (coming up January 30-February 1, 2013 in San Jose) is a great place to learn more about elearning and connect with other learning geeks. What helps you create and sustain passion for this work? Once upon a time, I worked at a small company. My new job title: “instructional designer.” 16 years later I’m still at it, designing elearning programs for the (mostly) corporate market. What about you?

Aaron Silvers and Kris Rockwell, helping Jane McGonigal demonstrate massively multiplayer thumb wrestling. Jeanette Brooks from Articulate and Diane Elkins were a huge help working the room and troubleshooting as we covered as much ground as we could in these 75-minute, hands-on sessions. Their analytics help them tell a story. What a great time I had at TK12!

This helped us focus on tangible results. The author does a good job of helping walk through the process of building objectives framed around understanding. But asking these questions is a good start and hopefully they help transition your course development away from information dumps to meaningful and effective learning. 2012….coming At least not immediately.

I like this look because it helps get away from the PowerPoint look and it adds a sense of informality to the course which may help make the content seem less rigid. It’s important to understand how people learn because it will help you build better learning experiences. Anything you can do to help you get there is a win. This book is great at helping you craft a message that has meaning and impact. January 25-27: Las Vegas (ASTD TechKnowledge 2012). That’s how found a lot of new bands like Mill Vanilli. I’ll get it started.

Review of Karl Kapp’s newest book on learning games aka serious games

I first met Karl Kapp in late 2012. Consequently, I was pretty thrilled when he visited the Knowledge Guru booth at DevLearn 2012 to learn about our newly-launched game engine. The section on scoring will be hugely helpful to any new learning game designer. This section is going to be very helpful to the novice designer. I contributed my chapter about a year ago.

Over the years elearning software has become easier to use. But with that comes some challenges. In the past you had an instructional designer who designed the course. Then there was a programmer who did the programming of the course.
