For us, this means leveraging Active Directory and likely SharePoint. If we go the SharePoint route- I am hoping we can leverage existing materials vs having to create “special” exercises for classes. Big fan of “practice AND get work done” if I have to do training events. I’m in the throes of a major learning ecosystem redevelopment project. Much of my radio silence has been the result of time spent “collecting bricks” – the materials I need for rebuilding this thing. It’s still early days. Since we are in the process of re-thinking our "intranet" and portals (otherwise known as "the SharePoint implementation") - we will have to rethink how people access our content libraries. Especially for on-demand topics we no longer do instructor-led training on (such as Office and Google Apps). This year I decided to hang out in the higher ed track. See what other institutions using SkillPort are doing. - 2 of the 3 higher ed presentations I saw used either another LMS or a portal to access and curate SkillPort content. People got too overwhelmed.

We would be able to focus on what inputs would need to be collected - because there is no WAY one LMS is going to capture everything in our environment. I am also not convinced that whatever LMS we wind up with should serve as a "training portal". came to this conclusion through hard experience :( We could work on something that would scale to different inputs (such as SharePoint, Drupal pages, the Student LMS, external content systems, new enterprise products). The Manager, the Director and I sat around a small table staring at feedback for our (not so) little LMS project.

US surveys show e-learning on the rise as training budgets fall - Clive on Learning , April 2, 2009 Thanks to Kineo for pointing me to the Market Update recently released by Ambient Insight which forecasts a compound annual growth rate of 16.3% from 2008 to 2013 for learning technology products and services. It’s when people keep talking about eLearning when they actually mean ‘distance’ learning, or ‘online delivery’, or computer-based training (CBT). While it talks in terms of SharePoint, really the patterns described relate to all different types of tools. Web 2.0
