Activities for Integrating Learning

Clark Quinn

I’ve been working on a learning design that integrates developing social media skills with developing specific competencies, aligned with real work.  It’s an interesting integration, and I drafted a pedagogy that I believe accomplishes the task.  It draws heavily on the notion of activity -based learning. The learning process is broken up into a series of activities.

Four Emerging Technologies that L&D Leaders Need to Consider

Bottom-Line Performance

It’s been “emerging” since 2008… and still only a handful of organizations are using it in a meaningful way. Consequently, I think it makes sense for learning leaders to be asking themselves how they can integrate video, interactivity, and mobile together to produce just-in-time solutions and practice activities. Mobile in Cars… Really. BIG DATA.

Emergent Workplaces: Learning in the Networked World

recent, very brief conversation with @krishashok triggered a few thoughts related to emergent workplaces and what learning in the networked world will look like. This is my area of passion. And after mulling over some of these, I thought they were worth putting down on virtual paper. The central term in this definition is connections. Fundamental Design of Learning Activities

Aaron Silvers

Design Thinking offers a set of tools to make sense of “wicked problems” and mysteries, and in this post I attempt to narrate my ideational journey in making sense of learning by digital means, the concept that I call learning experiences, and a notional (but far from complete) model for learning activities designed for individuals to experience. What Are Activities? Combat-Readiness.

Types and proportions of learning activities?

Clark Quinn

There are some things that need to be known cold, e.g. emergency procedures, hence the tremendous emphasis on drills in aviation and the military. I’ve been on quite the roll of late, calling out some bad practices and calling for learning science. And it occurs to me that there could be some pushback.  So let me be clear, I strongly suggest that the types of learning that are needed are not info dump and knowledge test,  by and large. What does that mean? Let’s break it down. There are times when fact remembering is needed, such as medical vocabulary (my go-to example).

I’ve highlighted some of them on my diagram below. What other new roles do you think will emerge? Over the last week or so I have been posting about how (I think) the workplace learning landscape is changing.

Activity stream aggregators typically republish activities in reverse chronological order, independent of type of activity.
