They can utilize the learning and problem-solving skills they already have and develop new abilities that will help them achieve real-life goals. Designing such activities can be a challenge, and developing the ways to measure learner success on these types of assessments is not as easy as creation of true-or false test items. Rubrics for assessments online can be one way to help measure learner’s success on such activities. also think it helps guide students throgh the project. Wired@Heart. | LEARNING TECHNOLOGY LEARNING MARCH 14, 2012 Discussion activity templates The key point is that the asynchronicity allows for reflection and considered articulation of your thoughts (something I've reflected on in Asynchronous = Time and space learning , The difference between asynchronous and synchronous learning activities and The learning cycle and the power of asynchronous learning activities ). First, I think it’s important to recognize that gradually, learners will take more and more ownership of choosing activities. Another important property of these activities is that they embed, possibly at multiple levels. Finally, activities can be individual or social. | THE LEARNING GENERALIST JANUARY 30, 2010 How you can build Meaningful Interactivity into your eLearning My approach towards scenarios When designing any kind of elearning, I like to use Cathy Moore's action mapping approach to first define the scenario-based activities. few things that might help you achieve the same effect: Tom's tutorial on how to build out a scenario visually. BAMBOO PROJECT | FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 2011 Action vs. Activity I've come to see this as the difference between action and activity. Action vs. Activity. Activity is something else. So signing up for social media is activity. This distinction between action and activity is important for professional development because we can become consumed with activity--more useless acts with no connection to our real goals or purpose--and then wonder why we aren't really getting anywhere. want to enlarge it and ask, how do we move from activity to action in all facets of our professional development? . Active sense-making Sense-making is an activity, a regular practice. added a sense-making activity about a year ago when I realized I was losing track of what I was finding on Twitter. The activity of reading, writing and perhaps commenting helps to internalize some of the knowledge. Yesterday, during my presentation on personal knowledge management to IBM BlueIQ I was asked about the role of blogging in my own sense-making processes. For almost seven years, my blog has been where I try to make sense of my observations. I’ve called it my home base. MORE >> -
LEARNING TECHNOLOGY LEARNING | THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2012 Teaching without powerpoint - Using a website creation tool There is some but mostly the help and advice I provide is done informally in one-to-one meetings. Within each page I had a consistent structure of a short presentation, embedded or linked example and activities. The activities were setup so that the participants could practice using the tool within a relevant context. The activities mostly worked well although I will reflect about specific tool-types in later posts. can recommend using a free website service like weebly to act as the hub of any workshop you do involving lots of internet based activities.
