Activities and assessment questions are a good example. Activities should be more involved. Provide directions and/or links to “nice to know” information. Use them to draw attention to key information and “build” visual content a little bit at a time. Make questions and activities thought provoking.

You put information in it to preserve and use later. When you need that information again you remember it, “taking it out of the fridge” so to speak. In your brain, unused information gets tossed out too. Fortunately, information doesn’t do that. Think of your brain as a refrigerator. I need to hold on to this.”
