Rustici Engine has supported xAPI (the Experience API) since 2011 when we created the initial version for ADL. Things to watch out for Upgrades are going to take some time for existing Engine customers. We always expected the volume and type of data to cause scalability issues.

When the ADL was told to create a useful standard for eLearning in the late 90s, there were a lot of different groups who were using electronic means to teach: notably the Army, Navy and Coast Guard. Also created by ADL, are more modern versions of SCORM called xAPI or TinCan that work as well or better than SCORM. Yes, there is.

So, normally it is ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning – a research group) that handles all the aspects related to SCORM. However, it is not mandatory to go through the process via the ADL route only. These statements are markers that the course makers can use for designing and upgrading of courses.

This is why the collaboration announced recently between ADL and AICC on Tin Can is such a huge deal.
