I am excited to work with the new 360 features of Captivate 2019 and already have plans to work on something I think will be really effective for our online learners.

A virtual field trip.

I am in the process of creating an online version of a one-week course that we offer for our customers. My original plan for one of the interactive elements of the course was to create a branching scenario that walked through some tests to verify proper grounding of a system. Part of our face-to-face course involves a short field trip to a system where we demonstrate how to perform the task and offer some hands-on for the learner. Now, with the release of Captivate 2019, I have decided to attempt re-creating this field trip experience using the 360 capabilities.

The initial, rough, plan looks like this…

I plan to utilize a total of five 360 images of the system taken from strategically placed locations. The learner will have the ability to explore the environment and, using hotspots, be able to gather information about various parts of the system. The five images (slides) will be linked together using a hotspot that will allow them to “travel” from one view of the system to another. This should give the learner additional feelings of moving about the environment. I will attempt to supplement this field trip with some interactive video that have some overlay questions to help reinforce what we hope for them to take away.

This project is perhaps a bit ambitious but I am confident it will be worth the effort and I hope to be able to share some of the project experience with you over the coming months as it is being developed.
