I didn’t get to attend the Adobe Summit or DevLearn 2008 this week in San Jose, CA, and I’m totally jealous of everyone who got a sneak peek of Adobe Captivate 4.
Captivate 4 will be part of the new Adobe eLearning Suite . For anyone who is not familiar with Adobe Captivate , it is an eLearning development tool that “enables anyone to rapidly create Thankfully, Philip Hutchison posted an excellent overview of all the new features on his pipwerks blog . You must check out Philip’s review.

Similar to Adobe Presenter / Captivate and Articulate Presenter , Xerte publishes web-ready videos to html pages that call swf files (minus the price tag, of course).
Tagged: adobe, articulate, captivate, development, elearning, free, learning, presenter, resources, tools, training, xert Thanks to Jane Hart , I was introduced to Xerte today. Xerte is an open source software package for creating interactive eLearning content.

Adobe is offering a familiar service … for free !
Anyone who has used Adobe Connect to host live meetings on the Internet knows that it is a powerful tool for screen sharing, file sharing, marking up documents, chatting, taking notes, and interacting with audio and video. Adobe is now offering this service for free for up to three participants at a time .
The meeting interface is fairly intuitive, but Adobe does provide documentation to help you use and troubleshoot ConnectNow.

This news from Broadcom and Adobe certainly caught my attention. This is not only a great opportunity for Adobe Flash, but opens up many, many opportunities for Flash developers and hopefully e-learning designers.
For now I am going to assume a content developer’s kit (CDK) will be provided by Adobe and the TV remote will act in the same manner as a Flash enabled phone’s key pad, recognizing key presses, etc. It has been announced that Flash will be available on TVs! This will now place rich Internet applications (RIA) on TVs, using Flash Lite Player 3.

In an anonymous reply to my posting yesterday on the pirating of PC software, an elearning developer asked "How do real people actually afford/justify purchasing something like the Adobe eLearning Suite?" quot; He'd tried open source and free software but had to admit that, as far as e-learning development software was concerned, "Adobe is still king and will remain so for our foreseeable future." quot; Adobe do make low-cost software of course, for the consumer market, and only a chronic misery guts would complain at the functionality you gained for under $100 from a product such as Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements.
