The Three Dubya's - Wimba, Webex and WiZiQ

Learnadoodledastic

Coming towards the end of a phase of Live Online Learning learning using Wimba Live Classroom. Thought i'd take some time to reflect on the Wimba application and compare it with my previous experiences with Webex (training room) and WiZiQ. Wimba: Wimba are a company that look to agree institutional wide solutions which would involve integration with Blackboard VLE.

A powerful virtual classroom: Adobe Connect 8

Janet Clarey

I’m always cognizant of what Ellen Wagner (formerly with Adobe) said while writing about web conferencing technologies around the time Blackboard bought Wimba and Elluminate and combined them to create Blackboard Collaborate (for edu-types, I’ll insert the ‘muwhahahaha’ just for you). Adobe in not an elearning company. Adobe is in the software business.

Elluminate, Wimba and Adobe Connect, Oh, My

Ellen Wagner

I heard from a few of my education friends after posting yesterday's report from Blackboard World. To be honest, several asked point blank what I was thinking to take a positive stand on this particular acquisition development in higher education.

We have 2D Virtual Classrooms, Why 3D?

Kapp Notes

In a 3D world, the interaction with the students feels more intimate than with a 2-D distance learning application such as Centra, Horizon Wimba or Adobe Connect. Sitting around a conference table for class. Another question and this one is simple.why 3D? We've got plenty of great 2D platforms for communication, what does 3D add? Here is a short answer.

Well Played, Blackboard

George Siemens

While Blackboard is unable to write a press release that includes clear statements like “we have purchased these companies&# , I have to give the company credit for the acquisition of Elluminate (and Wimba). In academia, Wimba and Elluminate are the dominant players. Adobe Connect has somewhat of an academic presence, but it has seen far more success in corporate settings, similar to WebEx and GoToMeeting. And, in a small field like ours, the Elluminate/Wimba acquisition was probably signaled to insiders. Here’s why. Web 2.0 Very complex.

Collaboration Tools

As I mentioned in Real-Time Collaborative Editing , I had a fantastic experience participating in group editing of a Mind Map of collaborative tools during a session at Learn Trends. You can see the result below. But it was interesting to see the results exported which I've embedded below.

Complaint? Students Don't Hang Out in Virtual Worlds After Class

Kapp Notes

The same is true of Adobe Connect, Horizon Wimba and other 2D classroom software. In the course of a week, I get asked many questions about Virtual Worlds, an interesting one that keeps occurring goes something like this. It seems that students find virtual worlds boring. How can I get them more into virtual worlds beyond the classroom? Let me give you an example.

Keeping Up - April's Big Question

also like to make occasional visits to  Google Labs and  Adobe Labs to "keep up" with the tech tools they are working on and to test drive any beta versions available. When April's Big Question from Learning Circuits is "How to Keep up?" This is in reference the immense and rapidly expanding technology tools. It is tough to stay on top of all the emerging tools. However, being involved in an e-learning community is a big help. For me it is a blog community and following many experts on Twitter. Many of the blogs I follow are part of the  eLearningLearning community.
