I love this trend, because it clearly says that the rapid content authoring tool vendors are becoming innovative and are seeing the market. It has gotten to a point where some of my courses are all developed in Flash and the e-learning authoring tools (DHTML) have been used more as a "shell" that decompiles it as a SCORM package. I really prefer the robust ability of creating courses in Flash and only use the DHTML e-learning authoring tools for their ability to make the course SCORM or AICC compliant. Courses were prepared using software products that were almost all based, to a greater or lesser degree on the Microsoft PowerPoint model of slides, templates and bullet points. Not any more.

The main reason was that such simulation tools are not always used for developing just any type of learning but focused on training content creation for a specific software application or system. The software simulation in turn, can be divided into screen capturing tools and interactive simulation development tools. In this case one needs a tool that does much beyond simple screen capturing.

In this webinar I focused on two awesome, but different HTML tools. This tool is perfect if you know nothing about HTML or HTML5. You simply choose a pre-made interaction/game, fill out the content forms within the tool and then publish an HTML5 or Flash object. Adobe Edge Animate. Frequently, we embed Adobe Captivate simulations within a Lectora eLearning course. The two authoring tools actually work together really well. But note that if you simply insert the Captivate simulation as a Flash swf file into Lectora without doing anything to limit the course navigation, then the learner can easily click right on through to the next page in the title.
