Simulations Just Got Simpler: Courtesy Adobe Captivate

Simulation can be defined as the replication of a real-world process or system. Simulations are used in many contexts, and can be used to create simulated environments for the testing, training, and optimization, of high-end technology, complex machinery, and software applications. As most simulations are computer-generated, they are an ideal element to incorporate in your e-learning program.

Making use of simulations within your training program provides employees with the opportunity to overcome real-world challenges in a safe environment, hone their skill sets, and visually explore each step in a process at their own pace. When creating digital learning courses, e-learning professionals do so with one crucial objective in mind: to have maximum impact on learners. This one objective remains the same irrespective of the subject matter, performance goals, or monetary constraints.

As an organization, you want your e-learning courses to bring about positive change in your employees and provide them with a superior e-learning experience. Using simulations in your instructional design is one of the best ways to achieve this. Simulations present learners with the chance to examine the effects their choices, behaviors, and actions would have in a real-world environment. Best of all, simulations eliminate risk by providing a safe environment in which learners are able to practice until they are ready to execute the task in their workspace.

However, generating a software simulation can be a challenging prospect. Unlike other forms of training, in which learners are spectators, in simulation-based training, they are active participants. In order to engage effectively with the training, it is essential that the simulation is fully compatible with the range of devices that are used by your target audience. The actionable components within simulations can make multi-device compatibility a challenge.

With Adobe Captivate, you can leave worries about learner engagement and device compatibility behind, and focus on developing an e-learning training program that is perfect for your training needs.

Simulations just got simpler

Generating a software simulation with Adobe Captivate is as easy as recording a ‘how-to’ video of the application in question. Simply select the Software Simulation option from the welcome screen of Captivate to begin creating your simulation. The next screen will present you with a variety of options that allow you to define the parameters of your simulation. Captivate will prompt you to select: the application you wish to simulate, the area of the application to be included in the recording, whether you wish to include an audio voice over, and the level of interactivity that you want the learner to have. Once you have made your selections, you are instantly ready to begin your simulation! From this point onwards, all your actions within the application will be intelligently recorded and saved by Captivate.

As soon as you stop the recording, Captivate will automatically create a training simulation from your inputs. Select the preview option to view and test the simulation. As you begin, you will see that the simulation requires an initial input from you, the user. Remember, this simulation will allow users to perform only those functions that you have performed while recording. As soon as the user hovers the mouse over an actionable section, a pop-up text will prompt them to take an action. These pop ups continue throughout the subsequent layers of the application, guiding the user through the simulation. The real time output of the application will change in accordance with user input.

All pop-ups and prompts are generated automatically by Captivate based on your actions during the recording. Prefer a prompt to be different? Simply modify the prompts using any of Captivate’s custom simulation tools. Once done, well done – you have successfully created a fully-functioning software simulation!

For your e-learning needs, choose Captivate to simply and effectively generate robust software simulations in multiple learning modes, all in a single recording session. Capture all your onscreen actions including mouse movements, system audio, and keyboard activity. All of this, while resting assured that with Adobe Captivate, minimum input can result in maximum impact.
