I downloaded Captivate today and wanted to start with a tutorial, but I got this message when I tried. Where do go to reset DipiAwareness?

I found a solution that I was able to execute successfully –

Solution 2:

On your desktop right-click Display settings on the context menu.
In the Display Settings page, change the size of text, apps, and other items to 100%.
Sign out and sign in to Windows again.
Recreate the preferences for Adobe Captivate.

It is from https://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/kb/troubleshooting-capture-issues-in-high-dpi-machines.html

As I wrote before, this can make it very tough to do the recording because everything becomes very, very tiny if you have a screen with a high ppi. In that case lowering the resolution as well can help. I am not able to record on my Surface Pro if I only change the display resolution or the DPIAwareness.

I have Windows 10. I was not able to save the change to “1” in the “AdobeCaptivate, ini” folder and I have not been able to open Captivate as an administrator.

If you do not have admin rights, you cannot access the installation folder nor edit theat ini file. However you can always change the resolution of your screen and the display percentage.

I should have admin rights.  I am denied admin rights also to a folder of photographs I saved and imported from an old computer. The photos are all mine. I suppose I will contact the computer company to find out why this is happening.

Hydroink , follow the below steps to change the DpiAwareness setting.

  • Quit Captivate
  • Navigate to “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 2019 x64”
  • Open “AdobeCaptivate.ini”
  • Change “DpiAwareness” value to “1”
  • Save the file.
  • Launch Captivate and start recording.

Sorry but in many cases this is an impossible workflow because everything becomes so tiny that you cannot manage a recording. Have a look at the arrows in the timeline panel, which are already very tiny in a normal view of a retina screen, you would need a loupe to be able to perform the actions.

I keep a normal HD monitor for recording on an old system, but if I have to capture on a retina screen, I prefer to lower the resolution.

This means you are using a retina screen. To record a software simulation or a video demo you need to see the real resolution, which needs either the change mentioned in that message to the dpiawareness in the ini file, or you can lower the resolution of your screen and set the display percentage to 100%. A second requirement if you are a Windows user, is to launch Captivate with the option ‘Run as Administrator’.
