Certainly, as the person asking the questions states, if you were going for Software Simulation eLearning then Captivate (or the other tools list in my post) would be more appropriate than Captivate.

The good news is that the tools and software become easier to use all the time. The nice thing is that the tools from Articulate and Adobe have really matured to the point where you can do a lot quickly and without too many problems. Better may be defined as faster in this case. You can use Flip Video cameras to do quick capture.
