There have been reports leaking to the web that hint of an April release date for the Adobe CS5 suite of software. Although Adobe goes out of their way to keep these release dates a secret, reports keep coming out. I've had lots of buggy situations with Flash CS4 and with Dreamweaver CS4 on my Mac, so I'm hoping that in addition to those new features which are coming, Adobe has taken the time to clean up the code a bit. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. And, because I cannot wait, here are some CS5 Videos and a dedicated CS5 website that should keep you enticed:

The nice thing is that the tools from Articulate and Adobe have really matured to the point where you can do a lot quickly and without too many problems. The other part of this is that your total output is going to be expected to increase. As the job market starts to come back and as the C-suite takes more notice of human capital, talent management and performance management, the broader suite approach will become desirable. Before I start with any of my actual predictions, let me throw in an overall prediction that the year is going to start off slow for most people, but by the end of the year, we will all be thinking: “Wow, 2010 was a crazy year!” When I say that, keep in mind that 90% of what workplace learning is all about will be basically unchanged this year.

In an anonymous reply to my posting yesterday on the pirating of PC software, an elearning developer asked "How do real people actually afford/justify purchasing something like the Adobe eLearning Suite?" quot; He'd tried open source and free software but had to admit that, as far as e-learning development software was concerned, "Adobe is still king and will remain so for our foreseeable future." quot; Adobe do make low-cost software of course, for the consumer market, and only a chronic misery guts would complain at the functionality you gained for under $100 from a product such as Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements.
Many of you have approached me regarding Adobe eLearning Suite training. The need for good training and possibly a certification that adequately covers the suite specific workflows and shared tools (like the SCORM packager, LMS adapter, Flash learning interactions, etc.) continues to be the single biggest request I hear from the eLS user base.   Recently a couple of vendors have started offering training on eLearning Suite. One is Element K (and we should have this available on the Adobe store at some point); the other is Lodestone.
Today, I’ll show you another option that is available for creating a course with multiple modules. The Adobe eLearning Suite integrates Adobe Captivate and Adobe Acrobat Pro to help you create a PDF portfolio containing your Captivate movies, complete with rich navigation. Your learners just need the free Adobe Reader on their computers to view this content. A typical scenario for creating an elearning course with Captivate is to create multiple 5-10 min modules of Captivate movies that are integrated using the aggregator or the multi-sco packager or by creating your own navigation shell using Flash Pro.

Adobe released a new elearning development platform a short while back for instructional designers and developers aptly titled eLearning Suite . The suite also contains Adobe Presenter for rapid development of PowerPoint to elearning conversions if needed; however, I believe the majority of designers will prefer to use Captivate. To help with the creation of content Adobe ELearning Suite also contains: It is a complete and tightly integrated solution for authoring rich learning content. Its complete in that it contains just about all the applications

Considering the amount of material RJ covers in a webinar, I’m sure even those who attended the session will find this to be good reference material. RJ will also be conducting another webinar on the Adobe eLearning Suite. In this webinar, you will explore how you can leverage each of the 9 major Adobe applications in the eLearning Suite for rapid eLearning, courseware authoring, simulations, and media editing. Some of you had written enquiring about the recording to RJ’s webinar on Captivate 4 (from July 17th). Good news!
The imminent release of the Adobe eLearning Suit e has got me thinking about the authoring tools market as it stands in 2009. Who needs authoring tools and which tools do they need? For $1799 or £1509 the suite will provide you with Captivate 4, Presenter (formerly Breeze), Photoshop CS4, Dreamweaver CS4 (with e-learning interactions added), Soundbooth CS4, Flash Professional CS4 (also with e-learning add-ons), the latest Acrobat and all the goodies needed to tie all the bits together. Quite a bundle and an exciting prospect for toy lovers. But I can't help but wonder who all this is aimed at.
