Access means how do you create the content, build the course – either online or your desktop/company server, prior to output which can go to the “web&# , “LMS/LCMS&# , etc. SCORM or AICC. Some vendors may state “SCORM/AICC or AICC/SCORM&# – means the same thing. E-Learning 24/7.

What about AICC? Unless you purchased a tool that is only AICC compliant, which in that case, time to ditch it and get another one. If you purchased an AICC only, then you have to find a system that is AICC compliant. It can be SCORM too, but the AICC is the key. . What about PENS or some other compliance standard?

LMSs/LCMS/CMS/learning platforms in commercial and open space continued their presence. no SCORM, AICC or PENS – however, I am now seeing a few vendors offer PENS (created by AICC back in 2005, but slowly gaining traction). Non compliant – i.e Peer review.

SCORM/AICC/PENS/IMS. Those that don’t are due to: Your tool works only with SCORM 2004 3rd edition, and your LMS only accepts AICC. Facility management. Can integrate with various HRIS or ERP systems including Oracle, SAP, Lawson. Ad-hoc reporting – i.e. you create your own custom reports. A: Nearly all.

Most tend to be proprietary, but I have seen a few that are SCORM/AICC and yes even PENS. One system offers the ability to do so – but prefers that people use just their product rather then pushing it via PENS to a LMS or downloading the course in a SCORM wrapper, then uploading it into a SCORM LMS).

PENS was created in 2005 by AICC as a new interoperability standard. When I was looking at a LMS/LCMS vendors in the last few years, one of my first questions, “Are you SCORM 2004 or 1.2 Same issue if your product outputs to only AICC, and my LMS vendor does not accept the AICC interoperability standard.
