Because, frankly, the ebook formats are still too limited. We can now embed the digital media within ebooks. Why ebooks, not on the web? I think it’s primarily about the ergonomics. However, we can’t quite do what I want with ebooks. The ebook standards don’t yet support it, though they could. Once you had your ePub, you needed to use a few different processes to both validate the ePub (ePub's will not be accepted by most vendors, such as the Apple iBookstore, unless the ePubs validate) and convert it to the mobi format for use on the Amazon Kindle. To convert to the mobi format, I used a converter found in Calibre , a free ePub reader. Thanks.

By next December, the average corporate learner will likely have a capable smartphone and their desktop/laptop PLUS a media tablet and/or eBook reader and perhaps even a smart TV back at home that is web-connected and runs apps. Another counter-balanced trend gaining momentum will be the use of eBook style delivery formats that make it easier to produce and manage long-form content that is far more feature rich than static PDF files. So, in no certain order, here are my predictions… 1. Mobile Learning Goes Mainstream. Access Points Diversify. Fewer but More Capable Tablets.

The noise about the release of Apple’s iPad has been a bit overwhelming. As Apple says, the iPad is slightly smaller than a magazine. In terms of input, the iPad has a virtual keyboard and Apple offers an auxiliary physical keyboard that connects to and charges the iPad. According to Apple, 140,000 existing iPhone applications will run on their tablet. No problem.

Yesterday, in case you’ve been living under a rock, Apple released their take on the tablet computer, the iPad. Apple is coming out with iPad versions of Numbers, Pages, and Keynote (spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software, respectively). eBook readers are changing that market, but only the mechanics, not the inherent nature of the experience. It’s still about ‘reading’, not about information. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and now Apple, are creating a new market for the old product. However, I need to write.

Would you find it enjoyable? A smart phone is an amazing product and in the m-learning sector will compliment learning, but her statement, makes just another reason, why an e-reader can change the market.
