He quotes an article by Dion Hinchcliffe in ZD Net in which Dion states, The idea of DIY (Do It Yourself) is to get developers and IT departments out of the demand loop and letting users self-service themselves. Formal Learning DIY Learning (Do-it-Yourself) is the term of the week, it seems. This is a very interesting conversation.

The only time I had an issue as a consultant was when I ran into a couple of organizations that highly regarded and mostly hired IDs who had masters. Richard Clark and Fred Estes wrote an interesting series of articles around this topic (the first is "Technology or Craft: What are we doing?" Dr. John.thats just what I wanted!

Im not sure how this relates to danah boyds recent blog article on Viewing American class divisions through FaceBook and MySpace. I had read Danahs article before starting my interviews and was listening for any judgment based on class. In my case, it does seem to be a gender issue. Too much information is out there.

You raise some excellent other issues: the mindset around free being subpar, IT support, and intended usage. I'm thinking, sidestep the integration issues.
