How much is an authoring tool worth?
Clive on Learning
JANUARY 10, 2012
Empower looks like it is much more powerful than Articulate Engage, which sells for four times as much, and almost certainly cost Trivantis much more to develop. Popular tools such as Captivate, Articulate and Trivantis' own Lectora still do. The recent release by Trivantis of Snap! Empower , a rapid Flash interaction builder, for the princely sum of $99, got me wondering if I have any idea any more of what an authoring tool is worth. So why the low price? Time was an authoring tool cost at very least $1K and often much more. In fact many toys never get used.

Product Review: Lectora Snap! Empower
MARCH 14, 2013
Lectora compares this product to Articulate Engage and frankly I think that is a mistake. Empower blows away Engage on multiple levels and as such I’d put this product against some of the rapid content authoring tools that offer simulation options. Initially this review was going to cover both Snap! and Snap! Empower, but I ran into a major issue with Snap! What was it?

Digital learning content does not have to mean CBT
Clive on Learning
NOVEMBER 3, 2009
I am becoming increasingly aware of the the need to make clear a distinction between the broad concept of digital learning content, in all its many varieties, and the much narrower idea of interactive tutorials of the traditional CBT (computer-based training) variety. While some trainers will have the aptitudes and interests which will help them to excel in this area, in most cases this will remain a job for specialists.
