  When I create video demos with Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, or TechSmith Camtasia Studio, I tend to record my voice at the same time that I'm recording the screen. Perhaps it's best to record the audio later (after the screen actions have been recorded)?   The answer to when it's best to record audio is.

Audacity is an open source audio editor. That’s easy to do with Audacity. Click here for Audacity tutorials. If you happen to be using the Articulate Video Encoder ‘09, then this is a redundant tool. All I do is drag the image (or folder of images) I want resized onto the icon. How easy is that? Moviemaker.

Audacity – I use this all the time. Easier to learn and use than Camtasia’s audio, and u can use it for audio for ur Articulate, Captivate, etc. Personally, it is more like Camtasia, but you can be the judge. This is one you need to include in your toolbox, even if you are using paid products.

Record the audio using your favourite screencasting software (eg, Articulate, Adobe Captivate, etc.). There is no need to use stand-alone audio recording software (such as Audacity, for example) as most modern screencasting tools have audio recording and editing capabilities built-in.

Sure there were exceptions on the desktop side – most notably Articulate Storyline, but overall until desktop vendors see the advantages of SaaS, especially with real time collaboration and peer review, tablets will be slow going. Audacity which is free – destroys it. Six of the top 10 are available including dominKnow, Articulate Storyline and ZebraZapps. If you are an Authorware fanatic missing the old days, you are still going to miss it – because while these capabilities are being added to tools they are still not at the level of Authorware.
