The world of authoring tools started at the advanced level, Authorware, Toolbook and to an extent DazzlerMax. Then Articulate Studio appeared. It was and still is a PowerPoint converter with feature sets. You either needed a tech skill set (at least moderate) or authoring tool design/development experience and preferably both.
